The Aspire Natural Cashmere Pocket Mattress is a 30cm pocket sprung mattress made in the UK, with up to 1,000 individually nested springs and a 250gsm cashmere and wool blend under a knitted cover. Aspire rates it medium-firm and backs it with a 5-year warranty. A 4ft6 double costs £485.

A knitted top instead of damask

Most of Aspire’s natural-filled mattresses use a woven damask cover. This one has a knitted sleep surface, which Aspire’s cross-section describes as a cashmere-emulating knit chosen for temperature regulation and durability. Knitted fabric stretches more than woven damask, so the comfort layers underneath come through more directly. The underside is traditional damask.

Layer, top to bottom What Aspire uses
Sleep surface Knitted fabric
Natural filling 250gsm cashmere and wool blend
Comfort fibre 800gsm high-loft recycled polyester
Insulators Recycled felt pad and 400gsm recycled fibre either side of the springs
Spring unit Pocket springs, up to 1,000 per mattress, framed edge
Base 800gsm fibre and woven damask

The pocket springs move independently, so a partner’s movement is kept on their side, and the framed edge gives a firmer perimeter. Aspire adds a ventilation system and transport handles, according to its product page. With a medium-firm rating and a 30cm build, it is a supportive mattress for back sleepers and couples. Side sleepers who want more give at the shoulder will be happier with a pillowtop.

A word on Aspire’s own description, which says the mattress eases back, neck and joint pain and improves circulation. No mattress can promise that. The NHS advice on sleeping better centres on a regular routine and a bedroom that is quiet, dark and cool, not on any one type of mattress; choose this one for its feel, not for medical claims.

Living with it

Natural fillings settle where you lie, so rotate the mattress head to foot every few weeks for the first months and then every season; it is single-sided, so there is no need to flip it. The handles make that job easier, and the knitted top is best protected with a breathable mattress protector rather than a plastic-backed one, so the ventilation can do its work.

Warranty and returns

The 5-year warranty is pro rata after the first year: Aspire charges 20% of the current retail price for a replacement in year two, rising to 70% in year five. There is no sleep trial, and under Aspire’s returns policy a mattress with a broken hygiene seal is excluded from the 14-day cancellation right unless it is faulty.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“A solid choice for a back sleeper or a couple who want natural fillings on a pocket spring unit without a pillowtop. Ignore the health claims on the shop page and buy it for its supportive medium-firm feel.”
