The Aspire 3000 Pocket Wool Cashmere and Silk Pillowtop is a hand-tufted pocket sprung mattress with a pillowtop sewn to its sleep surface, and the cheapest way into Aspire’s natural-filling range. A 4ft6 double costs £430, which is less than the flat-topped 3000 model with the same 1,000-spring core.

Why the pillowtop costs less than the flat version

Aspire shows a struck-through “was” price on every pillowtop in this family, £949 on the double. That reduction is not new: an archived copy of Aspire’s pillowtop category from March 2026 shows this model at the same £270 small single price against a £639 “was” figure. So treat the lower number as the real price. The odd result is that the pillowtop undercuts the flat 3000 Pocket Wool Cashmere and Silk, which sells at full price, by around £200 in a double.

Construction

The product page and its cross-section list ten layers. The micro springs live inside the pillowtop itself, so the softest part of the mattress also has some spring in it:

Layer, top to bottom What Aspire uses
Sleep surface Woven damask, hand tufted
Pillowtop filling Wool, cashmere and silk blend over a cotton and recycled polyester rebound layer
Pillowtop springs 2,000 micro tablet pocket springs
Comfort fibre 800gsm high-loft fibre, at least 70% recycled polyester
Insulators Recycled felt either side of the main unit
Main unit 1,000 nested 18cm pocket springs with a framed edge
Base 800gsm fibre and a damask underside

Micro springs of this kind are, as the National Bed Federation puts it, a relatively new development, used as a highly resilient comfort layer in place of more traditional fillings. Aspire’s spec bullets rate the mattress medium-firm, while its description calls it medium; with a pillowtop over a framed 18cm unit, we read it as medium-firm with a soft first few centimetres. That suits side sleepers who like cushioning at the shoulder and back sleepers who still want a level base.

Before you buy

A pillowtop is one-sided, so you rotate it but never flip it, and natural fillings settle where you lie, which is normal and not a fault. There is no sleep trial, and Aspire’s returns policy excludes a mattress with a broken hygiene seal from the 14-day cancellation right. The 5-year guarantee is pro rata after the first year, from 20% of the retail price for a replacement in year two to 70% in year five.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“If you want natural fillings and a soft pillowtop for the least money in Aspire's range, this is the one to buy, and its standing price makes it better value than the flat 3000. Warm sleepers should look at the Climate Cool version at the same price.”
