Slumberland Naturals Premium Wool Mattress reviewed

The Slumberland Naturals Premium Wool is a 32.5cm pocket sprung mattress with 2,550 springs in two layers and a filling of wool, organic cotton, organic flax and bamboo, sold only by Bensons for Beds. It is the deepest mattress in the Slumberland Naturals range at this price and comes in medium or firm.

Construction

The cotton and flax carry the Global Organic Textile Standard, the certification for organic fibres run by GOTS. Wool is the filling that makes the difference here: the National Bed Federation’s buying guide credits it with breathability and good fire retardancy, and Slumberland pitches it as warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The mini springs under the fillings make the surface more responsive than a single spring layer.

We rate the medium version at 5 out of 10 and the firm at 7. At 32.5cm it is a tall mattress, so check that fitted sheets reach and that your headboard sits high enough. Bensons calls Naturals the greenest Slumberland range; the Premium Wool contains wool, so it is not the vegan option, which is the Plant-Based model.

What to know before you buy

Slumberland gives an eight-year guarantee, and the Bensons Lifetime Guarantee picks up defects after that. The no-turn design needs regular rotation only.
