The Warren Evans Organic 6000 Hybrid Natural is a 29cm double-sided mattress that pairs a 2,000 pocket spring core with 4,000 mini pocket springs and thick layers of organic British wool, with no foam or latex anywhere in the build. It is the deepest model in the Warren Evans organic range, sold direct from the brand’s website and its four London showrooms.

Construction

Layer Specification (Warren Evans)
Cover Quilted 100% Egyptian cotton, natural fire retardant only
Upper comfort layer 2000 GSM certified organic British wool
Micro spring layer 4,000 engineered mini pocket springs
Second comfort layer 1200 GSM British lambswool
Core 2,000 individually pocketed springs
Border 3 rows of hand side stitching, 16 air vents (8 on 4ft and smaller)
Depth 29cm

Warren Evans describes the wool as GOTS certified. The Global Organic Textile Standard only allows a product to carry the GOTS label when every company in its production chain is certified by an approved independent body, and the product page shows no GOTS licence for the finished mattress, so treat it as a claim about the fibre rather than a certified mattress.

Firmness, turning and who it suits

You choose between Medium firm / Firm, which Warren Evans says 92% of buyers pick, and Medium. The brand changes the feel by altering the volume of fillings and springs rather than by adding foam.

If back pain is the reason you are buying, the research argues against simply picking the firmest feel on offer. In the 2003 Lancet trial by Kovacs and colleagues, 313 adults with chronic low-back pain were given either firm mattresses rated 2.3 or medium-firm ones rated 5.6, on a European scale that runs from 1 for the firmest to 10 for the softest. After 90 days the medium-firm group reported less pain in bed.

The price of all that wool is maintenance. Warren Evans asks you to flip the mattress after the second week and every three months after that, and regular turning is part of its guarantee terms. The brand itself says double-sided mattresses are about 40% heavier than single-sided ones, so this is a two-person job in any size above a single.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Choose the Organic 6000 if you want a foam-free, traditionally upholstered mattress filled with organic British wool and you do not mind turning it. It is the wrong pick if you cannot flip a heavy double-sided mattress every three months, or if you need a king that is 200cm long rather than 198cm.”
