The White Company Luxury White Down Topper reviewed

The White Company Luxury White Down Topper is a 9cm, two-layer goose topper that The White Company sells online only, not in its stores. Its detachable top layer holds 80% goose down and 20% goose feather in 300 thread count cotton, and the thicker base holds 100% goose feather in 233 thread count cotton. Prices run from £300 for a single to £550 for an Emperor.

Sizes, weights and prices

The White Company’s double is 140cm wide, 5cm wider than the usual UK double of 135x190cm, so measure your mattress before you order. The elastic straps stretch over mattresses up to 34cm deep. Dimensions, weights and prices are from the product page, checked on 28 September 2026.

What 80% down means

An 80% down top layer is well above the 60% down share that the IDFL guide to European labelling standards gives for advertising a product as down under EN 13186, and above the 70% down tops of most dual-layer goose toppers. Under EN 12934 the percentage is by weight. The White Company does not name a down certification such as the Responsible Down Standard. It says its fillings come from cruelty-free suppliers as a by-product of the food industry, and that the down and feathers are left unbleached, so the odd grey fleck is normal.

Care, returns and reviews

Because the top layer detaches, washing is realistic. The White Company says the topper can be machine washed and tumble dried, but recommends professional laundering for best results. For hygiene reasons it only accepts returns of toppers whose packaging is intact. Standard delivery is free on orders over £60 and costs £3.95 below that. The topper had 4.8 out of 5 from 148 customer reviews on the product page when we checked.

Nine centimetres of down adds warmth as well as softness. The Sleep Charity puts the ideal bedroom at around 16 to 18°C and warns that temperatures over 24°C are likely to cause restlessness, so this topper suits a cool room or someone who sleeps cold. It changes the feel of the surface rather than the support underneath, and Bed Advice UK warns that a topper on a mattress with deep dips will quickly mould to those same dips.
