Kensingtons Luxury Bamboo Fibre Filled Mattress Topper reviewed

The Kensingtons Luxury Bamboo Fibre Filled Mattress Topper is a soft, quilted topper with a bamboo fibre filling, a 400 thread count Egyptian cotton cover and 5cm side walls, sold by Kensingtons Bedding of Radcliffe, Manchester, from £280 for a single. It makes a firm mattress feel plumper; it does not add support.

What the Kensingtons topper is made of

Kensingtons’ product page gives a 1,200g filling, a 400 thread count cover and a 5cm side wall that keeps the fibre spread out to the edges. The surface is box stitched with rounded corners and all four corners are elasticated. Kensingtons does not say which size the 1,200g refers to, so treat it as an indication rather than a per-size figure.

The word bamboo needs reading carefully. Bamboo is not one of the textile fibre names allowed on UK labels. Annex I of Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 lists viscose, modal and lyocell as regenerated cellulose fibres and has no entry for bamboo, and the Trading Standards guidance on textile labelling confirms that in Great Britain only the names in that annex, now assimilated law, may be used. Fibre made from bamboo pulp is therefore normally declared as viscose, and the sewn-in label is the place to check the real composition.

Sizes and prices

Kensingtons shows every size against a higher struck-through price (£400 for the single) with no end date, so we treat the lower figure as the everyday price. Raymat Textiles, which trades from the same Bridgefield Street address in Radcliffe, sells a topper with an identical description, cover and side wall for less in every size at the time of writing (September 2026). The double is also listed two ways. The size chart graphic shows 135 x 190cm, the description text says 140 x 190cm, so measure your mattress before ordering.

Feel, washing and who it suits

We rate the feel as soft, about 3 out of 10. A fibre filling compresses under the shoulder and hip and gives the plump look of a hotel bed, but it will not hide a dip in a tired mattress, and Kensingtons’ own care notes tell you to fluff it regularly to keep its loft. It suits side and back sleepers on a mattress that feels too hard, and anyone who wants a topper that goes in the washing machine.

The product graphics give a 40°C machine wash. That is convenient, but the NHS advises people with allergic rhinitis to wash bedding regularly at 60°C and above, so if dust mites are your concern, add a barrier cover, which Cambridge University Hospitals calls the single most effective measure against them.

Delivery is free in the UK, with dispatch within 24 to 48 hours and an estimated three to five working days in total. Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days, and the product graphics mention a one-year warranty. There is no sleep trial.
