The British Natural Collection is John Lewis’s range of hand-finished mattresses filled with natural materials, and the Danby Linen 2500 is where it starts. It is the model to look at if you want wool and plant fibres rather than foam, without going to the collection’s higher price points.

The fillings are homegrown linen and hemp, which John Lewis chose for moisture wicking, plus layers of British wool from its selected farmers to help regulate temperature. The cover is WoolKind fabric, which is naturally fire-retardant, and the top is tufted with wool rosettes.

Support comes from the Cortec Air pocket spring system. The springs are sealed with heat rather than glue, so the unit can be taken apart and the whole mattress is 100% recyclable; John Lewis offers to recycle it responsibly when you replace it after seven years. The spring count rises with size, from 2,000 in the small double to 2,500 in the king and 3,000 in the super king, and a firmer edge is meant to stop you feeling as if you might roll off.

It is 24cm deep, single-sided (rotate only), and made in the UK. You choose soft to medium or medium to firm tension at the same price. It comes with a 7-year guarantee and the 60-night comfort exchange, and zip and link versions are listed in king and super king.

The specification above comes from the John Lewis product page, checked on 4 October 2026, when a Single cost £799 and a King £1,099. The recyclable spring unit is the point of the collection: the North London Waste Authority estimates that the UK throws away about 7 million mattresses a year.

Unser Urteil

Fazit
„We recommend the Danby Linen if you run hot or want to avoid foam, and you are prepared to pay for natural fillings made in Britain. If budget is the priority, John Lewis's Classic Collection gives you pocket springs for far less.“
