Habitat Supersoft 2cm Mattress Topper im Test

The Habitat Supersoft 2cm is a thin polyester-filled mattress topper from Habitat, Argos’s sister brand, sold through Argos in all five UK bed sizes. It works like a padded mattress cover, softening and protecting the top of the mattress for very little money.

How it is made

The Argos product page lists a 100% polyester cover and filling with a polypropylene reverse, a quilted top and elasticated straps at each corner. The single measures 190 by 90cm and 2cm deep, and the king and super king are cut 200cm long to match UK mattresses of those sizes. The cover is machine washable. Argos states no guarantee period for this topper.

These were regular Argos prices on 5 October 2026, and the same catalogue numbers appear on habitat.co.uk. The small double in particular is cheap, which is useful because many toppers skip that size altogether.

Feel and who it suits

Two centimetres of polyester fibre takes the edge off a firm surface and adds a soft layer between the sheet and the mattress. We rate it soft, 2 on a 10-point scale, but its effect on the bed is small: you still feel the mattress underneath. That makes it a good choice for a guest bed, a student room or a child’s bed, and for anyone who mainly wants to keep a mattress cleaner. Some Habitat reviewers say they use it in place of a sheet for the extra padding.

On argos.co.uk it was rated 4.5 out of 5 from 247 reviews in October 2026, while the smaller set of reviews on Habitat’s own site averaged 4.2, with 80% of buyers recommending it.

What it will not do

A 2cm fibre layer gives almost no pressure relief, so sore hips or shoulders on a hard mattress call for a 5cm topper or memory foam. It also cannot hide a sagging mattress; the National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice UK lists sagging and lumps among the signs a mattress needs replacing and expects a good one to last 7 to 10 years.
