Silentnight Impress 7cm Memory Foam Mattress Topper im Test

The Silentnight Impress 7cm is a memory foam mattress topper sold at Argos in double, king and super king, and the deepest topper in Silentnight’s Impress memory foam line. It is a single 7cm slab of visco-elastic foam in a removable cover, aimed at people whose mattress feels too hard at the shoulders and hips.

How it is made

The Argos product page lists a polyester cover over memory foam, a size of 190 by 135cm for the double and a depth of 7cm. Silentnight’s product images add a non-slip base, easy-fit straps, a hypoallergenic build and a 2-year guarantee. The cover unzips and can be machine washed at 40°C; the foam itself cannot go in the machine, so a protector over the top is worth having if spills are a risk.

Argos does not sell a single or a small double of the Impress 7cm. Prices were regular, with no sale running, on 5 October 2026, and the same catalogue numbers appear on habitat.co.uk.

Feel and who it suits

Memory foam softens under heat and weight, so the Impress lets the shoulder and hip sink in while the rest of the body stays level, which spreads your weight over a larger area. Seven centimetres is enough for that to change the whole bed rather than just its surface. We rate the feel medium soft, 3 on a 10-point scale. It suits side sleepers and back sleepers on a firm mattress best; front sleepers can find that their hips sink further than is comfortable.

Warmth and handling

Dense foam holds more heat than fibre. The Sleep Charity recommends a bedroom of around 16 to 18°C, and in a room warmer than that a hot sleeper is likely to notice the difference against a fibre topper such as the Silentnight Airmax. Foam is also slow to recover, so turning over feels more deliberate than on a springy topper. A 7cm double is heavier and stiffer to fit than any of the fibre toppers Argos sells, and the non-slip base helps it stay put once it is on.

Worth knowing before you buy

A topper will not fix a mattress that has dipped. The National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice UK expects a well-made mattress to last 7 to 10 years, and past that point the money is better spent on the mattress itself.
