The Flaxby Master’s Guild 8450 is a 29cm firm pocket sprung mattress made by hand in the UK by Yorkshire bed maker Harrison Spinks for Flaxby, a collection sold only by Dreams. It contains no foam or glue, uses British wool, hemp, flax and cotton, and comes in firm or very firm.

Construction

Layer, top to bottom Detail (Dreams)
Surface Tufted, wool and viscose blend
Natural layers British wool, hemp, flax and cotton
Micro springs Two layers of DNAir springs
Pocket springs Posturfil springs
Natural layers Wool, hemp and flax
Core Recyclable Cortec quad core pocket springs
Base Polyester layer and base fabric

Dreams counts 7,605 springs in a double. Most of that count is micro springs near the surface, which do the job a foam comfort layer does in cheaper mattresses, so the 8450 adapts to the body without any foam. Two rows of side stitching hold the edges, and Dreams says the Cortec springs are free of glue and flame-retardant chemical treatment, which is why the whole mattress can be recycled. That matters in the UK, where the National Bed Federation estimates around 4.75 million mattresses a year still end up in landfill or are incinerated.

The NBF’s Bed Advice UK guide credits wool with “good fire retardancy properties”, which is how a natural-filled mattress like this meets UK fire rules without chemical treatment. Dreams grades the 8450 firm, 7 on our scale, with very firm at the same price and split firm and very firm halves from king size up. It suits back and front sleepers and heavier people; side sleepers usually do better on a medium Flaxby such as the Master’s Guild 16150.

Guarantee

The 8450 carries a seven-year guarantee, the longest of the Dreams own-label mattresses we rank, plus the Dreams 100-night comfort exchange. A double weighs 53kg, so rotating it is a two-person job. Its 180 reviews on dreams.co.uk averaged 4.7 out of 5 in October 2026.

Unser Urteil

Fazit
„The Master's Guild 8450 is the Flaxby to look at if you sleep on your back or front and like a firm, supportive surface with natural fillings. Side sleepers will usually find the medium Flaxby models kinder on the shoulders.“
