Early’s of Witney is a British bedding brand whose name goes back to the Early family of blanket makers in Witney, Oxfordshire. The Oxfordshire Blue Plaques Board records that the family’s ancestor Thomas Early was apprenticed in 1669 and became the first Master of the town’s Blanket Company in 1711, and the brand’s own history says Early’s celebrated 300 years in 1969.

Witney no longer has a blanket industry. According to the Witney Blanket Story heritage project, Early’s, the town’s last blanket mill, closed in 2002. Today the shop at earlys.co.uk is run by Earlys 1669 Ltd from an address in Alfreton, Derbyshire, as its contact page shows, and Companies House lists Early’s 1669 Limited as a textile wholesaler incorporated on 9 February 2018. The range now covers cotton and cashmere throws, sheets, duvets, pillows, protectors, towels and mattress toppers filled with feather and down or with microfibre. The Sateen Stripe topper listing says that model is made in the company’s own factory in Lancashire.
