Relyon Chelsea 1500 Memory reviewed

The Relyon Chelsea 1500 Memory is a 27cm no-turn mattress that combines 1,500 pocket springs with a deep layer of memory foam. Relyon makes it for MattressNextDay rather than for its own collections, and it is the only Relyon we review with no animal fibres in it.

Construction and feel

MattressNextDay lists the springs, the memory foam comfort layer, a quilted knitted cover, air vents in the side border and Relyon’s Edge+ reinforced edge, and it grades the feel medium-firm. That combination gives a slow, contouring sink at the surface over a supportive spring base, so the shoulder and hip are cushioned while the lower back stays held. Back and front sleepers and people who change position during the night are the best fit. Pure side sleepers who like a soft top may find the medium-firm grade a little unforgiving.

Temperature

Memory foam is the trade-off here. The National Bed Federation explains that memory foam has a closed-cell structure, which makes it less breathable and a bit warmer to sleep on than latex. The springs underneath and the side vents help air move, but if you regularly wake up hot, a wool-filled Relyon will suit you better.

The obvious alternative is the Guildford 1000, which swaps the foam for British wool and silk and costs £399 in a double against £529 for the Chelsea. You give up 500 springs in a king for that cooler top.

All four sizes were in stock in October 2026. There is no small double.

Value

At £559 for a king, the Chelsea is one of the cheapest ways to buy a handmade Relyon with a 10-year guarantee. MattressNextDay shows a higher RRP struck through, but the selling prices have not changed since we first checked them in September, so we treat them as the regular price. MattressNextDay marks the mattress vegan friendly and hypoallergenic, which also makes it the Relyon to choose if you avoid wool.

Delivery, returns and care

Delivery is free to most of the mainland and often next day, and the mattress comes flat. There is no sleep trial on this model, only cancellation of an unopened mattress with the return at your cost, so be sure about the medium-firm feel before you order. It is single-sided, so rotate it head to toe, weekly for the first three months and monthly after that, as the NBF advises for non-turn mattresses.
