Best Panda mattress toppers

Panda London sells two mattress toppers, a 5cm bamboo memory foam topper that softens a mattress that feels too hard and a 7.5cm hybrid with micro-springs that adds depth and bounce for heavier sleepers. Choosing between them comes down to how much your mattress needs to change, how warm you sleep and where you buy, because Panda's trial only covers orders placed at pandalondon.com. Below, both Panda toppers are priced in every UK size from single to super king and set against three like-for-like rivals from Simba, Emma and OTTY.

Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper

The Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper is the Panda topper most people need, with 5cm of gel-infused HydroFoam memory foam at 80kg per cubic metre that softens a mattress that feels too hard, for £139.95 in a UK double. It comes in nine UK and EU sizes, all in stock when we checked, with a 30-night trial at pandalondon.com and a 10-year guarantee. Front sleepers and very hot sleepers should look further down the list, because reviewers found it sinks more than its medium-firm label suggests.

Pros
  • Softens a too-firm mattress in 5cm
  • Nine UK and EU sizes, all in stock
  • Zip-off cover washes at up to 30°C
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 cover fabric
Cons
  • Sinks more than medium-firm suggests
  • Can feel warm for hot sleepers
  • 30-night trial only when bought direct

Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper

Heavier sleepers and anyone who wants bounce rather than sink should choose the Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper, which stacks bamboo-infused BioCell foam over up to 2,100 micro-springs and memory foam in 7.5cm. Expert Reviews gave it five stars and a Best Buy in February 2026, and hot sleepers stayed cool on it in both that review and the one at Ideal Home. It scores a fraction higher than the 5cm Panda yet ranks second, because a double costs £339.95, more than twice the price, for a job the Bamboo topper already does on most firm mattresses.

Pros
  • Up to 2,100 micro-springs under the foam
  • 7.5cm masks a firm or tired surface
  • Ventilated mesh border for airflow
  • 10-year guarantee
Cons
  • More than twice the Bamboo topper's price
  • Weighs 9kg to 17kg, awkward to fit
  • Memory foam hug will not suit firm-lovers

Best alternative

Simba Hybrid Essential Mattress Topper

If the brand matters less than the spring feel, the Simba Hybrid Essential Mattress Topper is the closest rival to the Panda Hybrid, with up to 1,500 Aerocoil micro-springs under Simbatex foam in 6.5cm, at £299 for a UK double. Its 200-night trial is almost seven times Panda's 30 nights. It outscores both Panda toppers in our assessment and ranks third only because this page answers the Panda search.

Pros
  • 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee
  • Up to 1,500 Aerocoil micro-springs
  • Made in the UK
  • Cheaper than the Panda Hybrid in a double
Cons
  • Five UK sizes, no EU sizes
  • 6.5cm, shallower than the Panda Hybrid
  • No memory foam layer for contouring

Emma Original Topper

Best two-sided topper

Emma Original Topper

For buyers who cannot choose between soft and firm, the Emma Original Topper is a 6cm reversible foam topper with a softer Airgocell side and a firmer HRX side, at £219 for a UK double. Emma sells it in five UK sizes and none of the EU sizes Panda offers, and its pages disagree on the terms, 100 nights and 10 years in the service box against 30 nights and 2 years in the FAQ.

Pros
  • Flip for a softer or a firmer side
  • 6cm, a little deeper than the Panda
  • Cover washes at 40°C
  • Anti-slip underside
Cons
  • Only five UK sizes
  • No cooling layer or gel
  • Trial and guarantee terms conflict

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“Buy the 5cm Panda Bamboo Topper if your mattress is simply too firm, and the 7.5cm Hybrid only if you are heavier or want spring under you. Either way, order it from Panda directly, because the 30-night trial does not follow you to a retailer.”

Bamboo or Hybrid, which Panda topper to buy

The Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper is the right Panda topper for most people. Its job is to soften a mattress that feels too firm, and its 5cm of gel-infused memory foam does that for £139.95 in a UK double. The Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper costs £339.95 in the same size and adds 2.5cm of depth plus up to 2,100 micro-springs between its foam layers, which gives lift and bounce where the Bamboo topper gives a slow sink. Ideal Home’s reviewer, who slept on the Hybrid for two weeks over a firm Hypnos pocket-spring mattress, wrote that its 7.5cm depth “should suit heavier-weight sleepers who need a little more depth and support”. Expert Reviews gave the Hybrid five stars and a Best Buy in February 2026, while noting that it “costs almost the same price as a new mattress, albeit a very budget-friendly one.” In the same review, Jo Plumridge writes that the 5cm Panda topper “has been our favourite memory foam mattress topper” at Expert Reviews. Our memory foam and bamboo topper rankings set it against the rest of the UK market.

Panda London topper sizes

Both toppers come in all five UK sizes, from a 90x190 single to a 180x200 super king, and in EU single, double and king. Only the Bamboo topper is made as a 200x200 EU emperor. The Hybrid costs between £150 and £225 more in every size, the gap smallest in a single (£99.95 against £249.95) and largest in a super king (£174.95 against £399.95).

Size Dimensions (cm) Bamboo Topper (5cm) Hybrid Bamboo Topper (7.5cm)

Memory foam and heat

Memory foam holds body heat, and Panda says as much in the FAQ on its Bamboo topper page, where it warns that if you “suffer from extreme night sweats or are incredibly sensitive to heat, you may find it warmer than sleeping on wool or cotton.” Warmth costs sleep. A review of sleep and the thermal environment by Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology (2012) found that heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces slow wave and REM sleep, and that normal sleep goes with a bed climate of about 32°C to 34°C. Panda puts micro gel capsules into the Bamboo topper’s HydroFoam, and gives the Hybrid open-cell BioCell foam, springs and a ventilated mesh border. Reviewers split on the 5cm topper. At TechRadar it kept one reviewer’s hot-sleeping husband cool, but a colleague found it a bit too warm. The Ideal Home and Expert Reviews testers of the Hybrid both shared a bed with a hot sleeper and reported no overheating, so if you run hot, the Hybrid or the Simba Hybrid Essential, whose springs let air move, is the safer choice. Cooler designs from other brands are in our cooling topper ranking, and every material in our best mattress toppers.

Firmness, sleeping position and a tired mattress

Panda rates both toppers medium-firm, yet reviewers describe the 5cm Bamboo topper as softer in use. TechRadar found “a lot of moulding to the body” and judged that stomach sleepers “are likely to sink too far into the mattress and lose spinal alignment”, while Ideal Home’s side-sleeping reviewer found it softened a firm hybrid mattress with “excellent pressure relief”. No topper repairs a worn mattress, though, and Panda’s own FAQ says the topper will sink into an existing dip. If yours has one, our best memory foam mattresses comparison is the better starting point.

Trial, guarantee and where to buy

Where you buy matters more than usual. Panda’s product pages state that the 30-night trial is “only available at pandalondon.com”. Retailers can be cheaper. MattressNextDay listed the Hybrid UK single at £239 on 28 September 2026, marked as a sale against Panda’s own price of £249.95, but a topper bought there comes without Panda’s trial. Both Panda toppers carry a 10-year guarantee and free UK delivery on orders over £30. Their cover fabric holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate SH025 177569, and OEKO-TEX states that every article with the label has been tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances. Panda also states compliance with BS 7177, the British ignition-resistance standard for mattresses and mattress pads.

Methodology

How we rate

This page ranks both mattress toppers Panda London currently sells, the Bamboo Mattress Topper and the Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper, followed by the three nearest like-for-like alternatives on sale in the UK. The Simba Hybrid Essential is the rival to the Panda Hybrid, and the Emma Original and OTTY Bamboo & Charcoal toppers are the rivals to the 5cm Panda. Readers arrive here looking for Panda, so its two toppers lead the list and the alternatives follow in order of our score. The Bamboo topper ranks above the Hybrid despite scoring one point lower, because it costs less than half as much in every UK size. Depth, layers, firmness, cover care, certificates, trial and guarantee come from each brand’s own product page. Prices are regular prices at pandalondon.com, simbasleep.com, emma-sleep.co.uk and otty.com, read size by size together with stock on 28 September 2026.

Each overall score out of 10 weights comfort 30%, support 25%, temperature 15% and value 30%. For a topper, comfort follows depth and how the foam spreads pressure at the shoulder and hip, support reflects whether the layer bottoms out (springs and denser foam score higher), temperature credits open-cell foam, springs and ventilated borders, and value sets the double price against depth, trial and guarantee. Independent reviews by Expert Reviews, Ideal Home and TechRadar informed the comfort and temperature judgements. The REM-Fit Halo was considered and left out, because REM-Fit listed its UK single, king and super king as out of stock on 28 September 2026.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Panda mattress topper any good?

Yes, the Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper is a well-reviewed way to soften a firm mattress, with 5cm of gel-infused memory foam, a 10-year guarantee and an average of 4.81 out of 5 from 8,977 REVIEWS.io ratings (September 2026) shown on Panda's product page. Expert Reviews says it "has been our favourite memory foam mattress topper", while TechRadar found it too soft for stomach sleepers.

What is the difference between the Panda Bamboo and Hybrid toppers?

The Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper is 5cm of memory foam, and the Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper is 7.5cm deep with up to 2,100 micro-springs between two foam layers. The Hybrid feels bouncier and suits heavier sleepers, and it costs £339.95 in a UK double against £139.95 for the Bamboo topper.

How much is a Panda mattress topper in a double or king size?

A UK double (135x190) Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper costs £139.95 and a UK king (150x200) costs £159.95 at Panda's regular prices, checked in September 2026. The Hybrid Bamboo Topper costs £339.95 in a double and £359.95 in a king. The largest UK size, the super king (180x200), costs £174.95 for the Bamboo topper and £399.95 for the Hybrid.

Does Panda make a small double or single mattress topper?

Yes, both Panda toppers come in UK single (90x190) and small double (120x190). The Bamboo topper costs £99.95 in a single and £134.95 in a small double, and Panda also sells EU sizes from 90x200 up to a 200x200 emperor.

Does the Panda memory foam topper sleep hot?

The Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper can feel warm for people who overheat, and Panda's own FAQ says very heat-sensitive sleepers may find it warmer than wool or cotton. Its foam contains cooling gel capsules, but hot sleepers do better on the Panda Hybrid, whose springs and mesh border let air circulate.

Can you return a Panda mattress topper?

Yes, within 30 nights if you bought it at pandalondon.com, and Panda covers the return postage. The trial does not apply to retailers such as MattressNextDay, although MattressNextDay's listing does carry the Panda 10-year guarantee.

Will a Panda topper fit a deep mattress?

Yes, in most cases. Both Panda toppers hold on with adjustable elasticated corner straps (four on the Hybrid, according to Panda) and an anti-slip base, but the fit note on Panda's Bamboo Mattress Topper page warns that the straps can be a tight fit on an extra-deep mattress of 30cm or more.

Panda or OTTY, which bamboo mattress topper is better?

The Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper is the better buy, because it costs almost the same as the OTTY Bamboo & Charcoal Topper, £139.95 against £139.99 in a UK double, with much longer terms. Panda gives a 30-night trial and a 10-year guarantee, OTTY 14 nights and 1 year, and the Panda cover machine-washes at up to 30°C where the OTTY cover is dry clean only.
