The Brightr Titan is a 5 cm reversible foam topper that adds support to a mattress which has become too soft, with a medium-firm side and a firm side. It is the slimmer, cheaper sibling of the 8 cm Titan Deluxe, from £139.90 for a small single.

What is the Brightr Titan made of?

Layer Thickness Material
Top layer 3 cm Forticell foam with a WaveComfort wave profile
Support layer 2 cm High-resilience foam
Cover Removable Machine-washable, copper-infused fibres, SolaceChill cooling fabric on one side

The layer depths come from the chart on Brightr’s product page. The page also states CertiPUR certified foams, OEKO-TEX certified textiles and manufacture in Europe. For context, the CertiPUR technical paper published by EUROPUR limits formaldehyde emissions from certified foam to 15 µg/m³ after 72 hours in a test chamber. Brightr’s description is careless in places: one paragraph calls the options firm and extra firm, which describes the Deluxe rather than this model.

How does it feel?

We rate the Titan medium-firm, 7 on our 1 to 10 scale, and the medium-firm side is the one most back sleepers should try first. In the Lancet trial by Kovacs et al. (2003), 313 adults with chronic low back pain slept on firm or medium-firm mattresses, and after 90 days the medium-firm group had better outcomes for pain while lying in bed (odds ratio 2.36) and for disability. The firm side is for a mattress that has sagged further, or for front sleepers whose hips drop. Five centimetres of foam evens out light softness; a deep dip will still show through.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Titan is the Brightr to choose when a mattress has gone slightly soft and you want support back without adding much height. Start on the medium-firm side, which matches the firmness with the best back-pain evidence, and move to the 8 cm Deluxe only if 5 cm is not enough.”
