Firmness: Medium firmA firm or extra firm 28.5cm pocket sprung mattress with 2,550 springs and a firm foam layer, built for back support.
The Slumberland Orthopaedic Support Premium is a 28.5cm pocket sprung mattress in firm or extra firm, made for people who want a flat, supportive surface. It is the middle model of the Orthopaedic Support range at Bensons for Beds, between the Luxe and the Ultimate.
| Component | What Bensons lists |
|---|---|
| Cover | Soft-touch stretch knit with Adaptive cooling and Purotex+ anti-allergen treatments |
| Comfort layers | EcoAir recyclable foam and a firm foam layer |
| Springs | 2,550 in two layers: 1,400 full-height Apex Max Pro nested pocket springs and 1,150 mini pocket springs |
| Foundation | New Life layer made from 91% recycled fibres |
| Edge | Dynamic reinforced edge support |
Orthopaedic here describes the feel: a firm foam layer under thin comfort fillings, over a dense spring unit. Slumberland says the Apex Max Pro springs, which are exclusive to Bensons, give 20% more support than a standard pocket spring system (Orthopaedic Support Premium at Bensons). The 1,150 mini springs above them take the edge off the firmness, so the surface is supportive without feeling like a board. Because each spring is pocketed and works on its own, the National Bed Federation’s buying guide notes that pocket springs “help to eliminate roll-together”, which matters on a firm double shared by two people of different weights.
We rate the Firm version 7 on our 1 to 10 scale. It keeps the hips level for back sleepers, and the extra firm option suits front sleepers and heavier back sleepers. Side sleepers usually need more give at the shoulder than either version allows. Bensons lists the mattress as endorsed by the Good Housekeeping Institute for 2026.
A single costs £679.99 and a double £799.99. It is made in the UK, single-sided and covered by an 8-year guarantee. Bensons also says the springs can be separated from their pockets by machine at the end of the mattress’s life, so the steel and the polypropylene can be recycled separately.
Buy the Orthopaedic Support Premium if you sleep on your back or front, find most mattresses too soft and want the reassurance of a firm, even surface. Compared with the Luxe, it adds 1,150 mini springs and 2cm of depth; the Ultimate goes further, with 1,500 mini springs and a 31cm build, at a higher price. If you like a firm feel but prefer the contouring of memory foam, the Air 3.0 covers the same firm and extra firm grades.
