The Woolroom Cheviot Latex and Wool Mattress Topper is an 11 cm, double-sided topper with a 2 cm natural latex core between layers of British wool, hand-crafted in the UK. It is the most expensive topper Woolroom sells, at £1,299 for a double at the regular price, and it carries a 15-year warranty, the same term as Woolroom’s Artisan mattresses.

Inside the Cheviot

The Cheviot product page lists the build symmetrically, so both faces sleep the same and the topper can be flipped and rotated. From the top down, the order is as follows.

Layer Material and job
Sleep surface British wool blend outer
Comfort padding Wool layers that keep loft and shape
Comfort layer Further British wool for depth and breathability
Structure Cotton-rich layer
Core 2 cm natural gel latex
Structure Cotton-rich layer
Comfort padding West Country wool and needled British wool

Why latex under wool

Latex behaves differently from memory foam. The National Bed Federation’s mattress buying guide says latex recovers its shape immediately when pressure is removed, has very good point elasticity for an even spread of pressure, and sleeps naturally cooler than traditional foam. Woolroom pairs it with wool for moisture handling, so the Cheviot is aimed at people who want pressure relief without the slow sink of visco foam. We estimate the feel as medium-firm for a topper, because the latex adds support rather than softness.

Sizes and prices

Five UK sizes are made to order. Prices are regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026), when a 25% sale was running.

Size Dimensions (cm) Regular price
Single 90x190 £999
Small double 120x190 £1,299
Double 135x190 £1,299
King 150x200 £1,399
Super king 180x200 £1,599

Woolroom makes three deep toppers, and they do different jobs. The 9-10 cm Woolly and the 10 cm Ryeland combine mini springs with wool, and Woolroom rates the Woolly soft to medium, so a sprung model is the one to choose if a mattress simply feels hard. The Cheviot’s latex core is firmer and more supportive, which suits back sleepers and heavier sleepers who want pressure relief at the hips and shoulders without sinking in. At 11 cm it is also the deepest of the three.

What to weigh before buying

Price is the obvious question. At £1,299 for a double, the Cheviot costs as much as many complete mattresses, so it makes sense only if your mattress is sound, you want to keep it, and you value a natural build with a long guarantee. Two practical points also count against it. Each Cheviot is crafted by hand and dispatched in seven to eight weeks, and it can only be spot cleaned, not dry cleaned or washed. The 30-night sleep trial still applies despite the made-to-order build.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Buy the Cheviot if you want pressure relief without the slow sink of memory foam and plan to keep it for years, since its 15-year warranty matches Woolroom's Artisan mattresses. At £1,299 for a double it costs as much as many complete mattresses, which is the main reason to hesitate.”
