The Talatex Premium Latex Topper is a natural Dunlop latex topper in 5cm and 7.5cm depths, priced from £179.99 for a 5cm single. It is a springier, more supportive alternative to fibre and memory foam toppers, suited to people who want a more comfortable surface without losing support.

Construction

The Talatex product page specifies Dunlop-process natural latex at a density of 70 kg/m³, with a pinhole Open Cell Structure Grid for ventilation and a thin cotton inner cover whose materials Talatex says are flame retardant to meet UK fire regulations. The inner cover mainly protects the latex in transit, so Talatex recommends a fitted sheet or mattress protector over the top. There are no straps. The weight and grip of the latex, plus your fitted sheet, hold it in place.

Regular prices on talatex.com, checked on 28 September 2026, with free delivery. Talatex describes both depths as medium to medium-firm, 22 to 30 on the ILD scale it uses for firmness, and recommends the 7.5cm for side sleepers and people with a larger build.

Why latex, and who should avoid it

Latex behaves differently from memory foam. It gives under the shoulder and hip but springs back at once rather than sinking slowly, and the pinhole grid in this core is there to let air through. Talatex also points to the evidence for medium-firm sleep surfaces. The best-known trial, published in The Lancet in 2003 (Kovacs et al.), randomised 313 adults with chronic low-back pain to firm or medium-firm mattresses and found better outcomes for pain in bed and disability in the medium-firm group after 90 days. That study tested mattresses, not toppers, so read it as a pointer to the firmness band worth aiming for rather than proof that a topper treats back pain.

Natural latex is not for everyone. Great Ormond Street Hospital advises that people with a latex allergy should avoid products containing latex, and says up to five per cent of the general population are believed to be allergic. Talatex warns of a mild natural smell on unpacking that fades after 24 to 72 hours of airing, and the latex itself cannot be washed. The trial is 30 days, with return postage at your cost unless the topper is faulty, and the warranty is one year. Both are short for a topper at this price.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Talatex Premium is the pick if you want a topper that adds cushioning while keeping the bed supportive, and natural latex rather than foam. Its 30-day trial and one-year warranty are thin for the money, so be sure of the depth before you order.”
