Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe reviewed

The Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe is a 29.5cm pocket sprung mattress filled with organic cotton, organic flax and bamboo, with no wool or other animal fibres. Bensons for Beds sells it in medium, firm and extra firm, which makes it the vegan choice for almost any sleeping position.

Construction

The cotton and flax are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard, and Bensons describes the Naturals range as suitable for people who are sensitive or allergic to animal products (Plant-Based Luxe at Bensons). Plant fibres breathe and let moisture escape, so the surface sleeps cooler than a memory foam top. The mattress is also hand tufted: tapes are passed right through it at intervals, which the National Bed Federation’s buying guide explains “prevents loose fillings from being dislodged”.

We describe the Medium version and rate it 5 on our 1 to 10 scale. With 1,850 springs it has fewer than the Naturals Premium Wool, so the surface responds a little less to movement, and it lacks the extra warmth that wool gives in winter. Medium suits side and back sleepers, while firm and extra firm suit back and front sleepers and heavier bodies.

A single costs £799.99 and a double £949.99. Bensons lists it as endorsed by the Good Housekeeping Institute for 2026. It is made in the UK, single-sided with handles for rotating and covered by an 8-year guarantee.

Who should buy it

The Plant-Based Luxe is the right Slumberland if you avoid animal products, react to wool, or simply want natural fillings without paying for the Premium Wool. Its medium option suits most side and back sleepers, and it is one of the few Slumberland models sold in medium, firm and extra firm at the same price. Choose the Premium Wool instead if you sleep cold in winter or want the bounce of 2,550 springs.
