Jay-Be Simply Kids Foam Free Sprung im Test

The Simply Kids Foam Free Sprung is the entry model of Jay-Be’s children’s range. It is made for single beds, cabin beds and bunk beds, and it comes in a Shorty, a Single, a European Single and a Small Double.

Inside is a medium-firm spring core with a high-density e-Fibre insulator on top to stop the springs being felt, then a breathable Rebound e-Fibre layer and a woven cover in OEKO-TEX certified fabric. There is a high-density e-Fibre foundation underneath, the fire retardant is salt-based and the whole mattress is 16 cm deep.

Jay-Be describes the spring core as medium firmness, which we place at 5 out of 10. That suits a growing child who moves around at night, and the fibre layers let air through, so it stays fresher than a foam mattress. The low depth matters on a bunk bed, where Jay-Be notes the top of the mattress must sit at least 16 cm below the safety rail.

The trade-off is refinement. A thin fibre comfort layer over a basic spring unit is fine for a child but gives little pressure relief for an older, heavier teenager.
