How the Comfort-Plush is built

Intex’s patented Fiber-Tech construction ties the top of the bed to its base with internal fibres, so the surface stays flat instead of ballooning, and K-shaped braces stiffen the edges so you can sit on the side without it folding. The top is a soft velour flocking that holds a sheet in place. At 152cm wide it is wider than a UK double (135cm) and close to a UK king (150 x 200cm), but a standard king fitted sheet will struggle to reach under a 56cm-deep bed, so a deep-pocket sheet is the safer buy.

Firmness is up to you

An airbed’s firmness is set by how much air you put in, and that is an advantage the evidence supports. A systematic review of 24 controlled trials in Sleep Health (Radwan et al., 2015) concluded that a mattress rated medium-firm and custom inflated, meaning adjusted by the sleeper, was optimal for sleep comfort, quality and spinal alignment. In practice, pump the Comfort-Plush firm, lie on it, and release air until your hips no longer feel pushed up.

Expect it to feel softer after the first nights. Intex’s support notes for the 64418ND explain that new vinyl stretches under body weight during the first few uses, which feels like a leak but is not one, and a top-up with the built-in pump fixes it. If the bed keeps losing air after that, Intex suggests checking that the valves are secure, then spraying the surface with soapy water from a squirt bottle, because a real leak will bubble.

Who should buy the Comfort-Plush High-Rise?

Couples and older guests who stay a few nights at a time are the natural fit, because 56cm is high enough to sit on the edge and stand up without kneeling. Anyone camping should look elsewhere: the pump runs only from a mains socket and the packed bed weighs 9.9kg. Like every PVC airbed it can feel cool on a cold night, so a blanket under the sheet helps in an unheated room.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Comfort-Plush High-Rise is our pick when an airbed has to stand in for a real bed, because its 56cm height makes getting in and out as easy as a divan. It is not a camping bed: it needs mains power and weighs 9.9kg packed.”
