Outwell Flock Superior Double Airbed reviewed

The Outwell Flock Superior Double Airbed is a 45cm, three-layer air bed with a built-in 230V pump and a stated maximum load of 300kg, and at 195 x 160cm it is the widest double in our air bed ranking. At the time of writing (September 2026) Outdoor World Direct sells it for £90 and lists a two-year warranty.

Outwell builds the Flock Superior around three internal air layers with raised edging all round, which the retailer Purely Outdoors describes as giving a firm, stable structure that limits movement. The 2026 version has a soft velour-touch top over the PVC base. The 45cm height keeps a sleeper clear of cold ground in a tent, and it also makes a sleeping bag easier to get in and out of than on a 22cm flocked bed.

Firmness depends on how long you run the pump, so inflate it fully, lie on it and release air through the double-seal valve until it feels right; the same valve is designed to hold that pressure once it is closed. The velour-touch rayon top also stops a sleeping bag or sheet sliding about during the night.

For camping, the numbers favour this bed. It weighs 6.7kg packed against 8kg for the Vango Blissful and 9.4kg for the Hi-Gear High Rise Flock King, and 160cm of width is 10cm more than a standard 150 x 200cm UK king mattress. The limit is power. The pump needs a 230V socket, so it suits a pitch with electric hook-up, a caravan awning or a spare room rather than a wild-camping trip.

Stock is patchy. In September 2026 Outdoor World Direct showed one left, Purely Outdoors listed the 2026 version as out of stock at £89.95, and Attwoolls was out of stock too, so check availability before planning a trip around it. A faulty bed can be rejected within 30 days under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, on top of the two-year warranty.
