Firmness: Medium · 200-night sleep trialThe Dunelm Hotel Down Rich topper pairs a detachable 70% duck down layer with a duck feather base in 230 thread count cotton.
The Dunelm Hotel Down Rich Dual Layer Feather Topper is a two-layer topper sold by Dunelm under its Hotel label, with a top layer of 70% duck down and 30% duck feather on a base of 100% duck feather. Both layers are cased in 230 thread count cotton, and prices start at £140 for a single on Dunelm’s product page, where it had no customer reviews yet at the time of writing (September 2026).
| Layer | Filling | Casing | Care |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top layer | 70% duck down, 30% duck feather | 100% cotton, 230 thread count | Detachable, machine washable |
| Base layer | 100% duck feather | 100% cotton, 230 thread count | Sponge clean only |
| Whole topper | Fits mattresses up to 35cm deep | Sold as a 5cm topper | Line dry, not for ironing |
Dunelm describes the feather base as giving firm support under a soft top. Down and feather compress under weight, so the overall feel stays soft; we rate the Hotel Down Rich medium-soft, 4 out of 10, a little firmer than a single-layer down topper because of the feather base. Both layers need regular shaking to hold their loft. A feather quill can also work through the casing now and then.
| UK size | Dimensions (cm) | Price at Dunelm |

Regular prices, checked on 28 September 2026. In a double the Hotel Down Rich costs £160, against £45 for the Dunelm Rebound fibre topper, so you pay several times more for the down-rich top layer.
The two layers are sold as one topper, but the top layer detaches so it can go in the washing machine on its own while the base stays on the bed. Dunelm says the topper fits mattresses up to 35cm deep, so measure a deep pillow-top mattress before ordering.
Down and feather are not for everyone. The NHS advises people with allergic rhinitis to use synthetic bedding and covers and to wash bedding regularly at 60C and above. The Hotel topper’s base layer can only be sponge cleaned, so if dust mites or feathers trigger your symptoms, a washable synthetic topper such as the Dunelm Rebound is the safer buy. The fillings are animal products, so the topper is also unsuitable if you avoid them. If animal welfare matters to you, note that the Dunelm product page does not name a down-sourcing standard.
There is no sleep trial, and Dunelm’s returns policy accepts change-of-mind returns only on unused items within 28 days, so a topper that has been slept on cannot go back unless it is faulty.
“The Hotel Down Rich is for sleepers who want the sink-in softness of a hotel bed and are happy to shake a feather topper every morning. Skip it if dust mites or feathers trigger allergies, or if you want a topper you can wash in one piece, because the 100% feather base is sponge clean only.”Go to shop →
