Argos Home Open Coil Mattress im Test

The Argos Home Open Coil is an 18cm budget mattress from Argos’s own label, built on Bonnell open coil springs and roll packed so you can carry it home from a store. Argos buyers rate it 4.5 out of 5 across more than 2,100 reviews, as read on 5 October 2026.

How it is built

An open coil unit links rows of hourglass springs with helical wire, so the whole unit moves together. The National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice UK guide calls this the Bonnell spring and notes that it “is not as popular as it once was”, because pocket and continuous springs have taken over the mid-market. The Argos product pages list 216 springs in the single, 312 in the double and 375 in the king.

The comfort layers sit on one side only, under a quilted sleep surface, so it is a no-turn mattress. It comes roll packed, which makes it easy to collect from an Argos store and fit in a car.

Sizes and prices at Argos

Prices were regular, with no sale running. There is no small double or super king.

Who it suits

It is built for occasional use: a spare room, a guest bed or a stopgap after a move. Argos buyers score its firmness 3.2 out of 5, and the Argos review summary notes that some buyers can feel the springs through the thin layers, so it is not the right choice for nightly use by a couple or for back pain.

The manufacturer’s guarantee is 1 year. Argos’s 100-night comfort promise allows one exchange for another mattress of the same size, and an unused mattress in its packaging can go back under the 30-day returns policy.
