The Dunlopillo Firmrest is a firm, 21 cm latex mattress: a layer of 100% natural Talalay latex over an aerated foam core, sold from £879 for a single at MattressNextDay. It is the cheapest and firmest of the three models in Dunlopillo’s Core collection, and it is built for back and front sleepers who want to lie on top of the mattress rather than sink into it.

How the Firmrest is built

All three Core models follow one recipe, according to Dunlopillo’s Core collection page. A comfort layer of Dunlopillo Talalay latex sits on the VENTRA Core Performance System, a perforated foam base designed to channel air and heat out of the mattress, and the whole thing is upholstered in the quilted Dunlopillo Plus fabric, which Dunlopillo says holds the sleeping surface at 1°C below body temperature. Only the depth of latex changes between models, and the Firmrest has the least of it. It is single-sided, so you rotate it rather than turn it.

Dunlopillo quotes a depth of 21 cm. MattressNextDay’s product page and Land of Beds both list 19.5 cm, so plan fitted sheets and headboard height around the lower figure.

Sizes, weights and prices

Size Dimensions (cm) Net weight (MattressNextDay) Price
Single 90 x 190 16 kg £879
European single 90 x 200 16 kg £940
Small double 120 x 190 20.5 kg (Land of Beds) £1,369 at Land of Beds only
Double 135 x 190 23 kg £1,169
King 150 x 200 27 kg £1,349
Super king 180 x 200 32 kg £1,659

Prices are MattressNextDay’s at the time of writing (September 2026); Land of Beds charges roughly 15 to 20% more for the same sizes. MattressNextDay shows a struck-through RRP on every Dunlopillo page with a countdown already at zero, so we treat its selling price as the everyday price.

Firmness and who it suits

MattressNextDay rates the Firmrest firm, and Land of Beds puts it at 5 on its 6-point scale; we record it as 8 out of 10. That suits back and front sleepers, and heavier people who dislike the feeling of sinking. Latex keeps some give under the hips, so it is less unforgiving than a firm open-coil mattress, but lighter side sleepers may find too little room for the shoulder.

If back pain is the reason you want a firm mattress, the best-known trial points the other way. In a randomised, double-blind trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain published in The Lancet in 2003 (Kovacs et al.), people given a medium-firm mattress reported less pain in bed and on rising after 90 days than those given a firm one. Buy the Firmrest because you like a firm surface. The medium-rated Millennium and Sovereign sit closer to what that trial favoured.

Materials, allergies and guarantee

MattressNextDay lists the Firmrest as made in the UK from materials free of animal by-products. Dunlopillo’s UK range is made by Relyon Beds Ltd of Wellington, Somerset, an approved member of the National Bed Federation. The NBF says every approved manufacturer is audited by SATRA against its Code of Practice, which covers supply-chain checks and regulatory compliance, including UK fire safety rules.

Dunlopillo describes its Talalay latex as hypoallergenic and anti-microbial. That is a different question from a latex allergy, and the NHS lists latex among the common causes of allergic rhinitis, so speak to the retailer before ordering if you have been diagnosed with one.

The mattress carries a 15-year Dunlopillo guarantee. Dunlopillo sells only through stockists and runs no home trial of its own, and we found no sleep trial on this model at MattressNextDay, so lie on one in a showroom first if you can. MattressNextDay delivers free, next day, on orders placed by 6pm.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Pick the Firmrest if you sleep on your back or front and want natural latex that stays firm, backed by a 15-year guarantee. Lighter side sleepers, and anyone choosing firm only because of back pain, should look at the medium-rated Millennium instead.”
