What a wool enhancer does

Dreams describes the wool as naturally insulating and says it responds to your temperature, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter. The smooth quilted surface also covers the tufts and zip-and-link seams of traditional mattresses, which is the job the enhancer is designed for. Expect a soft, springy layer rather than the slow sink of memory foam. Dreams publishes no firmness grade, and we place it at about 5 out of 10.

Wool fillings settle with use, which is why Flaxby asks you to turn the enhancer weekly for its first three months. Dreams gives no washing instructions, so keep it under a mattress protector. For a dust mite allergy, the NHS advice on allergic rhinitis is to use synthetic bedding and wash it regularly at 60°C and above, which makes a wool enhancer the wrong pick for that reader.

Who it suits

The enhancer is built for owners of pocket-sprung and traditional tufted mattresses, the kind Flaxby itself makes, who want a deeper, more forgiving surface without hiding the mattress under foam. Couples who disagree about temperature are the other natural buyers, because wool does not trap heat the way memory foam can. It is a heavy layer, with Dreams listing the double in a 7kg package, so fitting it on a king or super king is easier with two people.

Sizes and prices

Size Dimensions (cm) Price at Dreams
Single 90x190 £399
Double 135x190 £499
King 150x200 £599
Super king 180x200 £699

At these prices the enhancer costs more than three times a Dreams foam topper of the same size. It makes most sense on a pocket-sprung or traditional mattress you intend to keep for years, where the 10-year guarantee earns its keep.

Unser Urteil

Fazit
„Choose the Flaxby enhancer if you want a natural, breathable layer on a traditional mattress you plan to keep, and value a 10-year guarantee. If your mattress is simply too firm, a 4cm foam topper does more for a fraction of the price.“
