Silentnight Deep Sleep 2.5cm Mattress Topper im Test

The Silentnight Deep Sleep 2.5cm is a thin hollowfibre mattress topper and the cheapest Silentnight topper sold at Argos. It adds a soft, washable layer to a mattress that is a little firm or a little worn, rather than changing how the bed supports you.

How it is made

According to the Argos product page, it has a 100% polyester microfibre cover, a hollowfibre filling and elasticated corner straps, with a polypropylene reverse that sits against the mattress. The single measures 193 by 90cm and 2.5cm deep. Silentnight’s product images state that it is made in the UK and carries a 2-year guarantee. It contains nothing likely to cause allergies, and the whole topper is machine washable and safe in a tumble dryer, which is the practical advantage of fibre over foam.

Feel and who it suits

Two and a half centimetres of fibre compresses further once you lie on it, so the main effect is a softer, warmer surface. We rate it medium soft, 4 on a 10-point scale. It is a good fit for a guest bed, a student room or a mattress that feels hard on the surface but still holds you level. It is not a fix for hip and shoulder pain on a very firm mattress: for that a 5cm Airmax or a memory foam topper does more.

It is one of the most-reviewed toppers Argos sells, with a 4.6 out of 5 rating from 2,806 reviews in October 2026.

Care and lifespan

Because the whole topper goes in the washing machine, it doubles as a layer of protection for the mattress beneath. Allergy UK notes in its house dust mite factsheet that washing at 60°C or above kills mites while lower temperatures only remove the allergen for a while; Silentnight does not state a temperature for this model, so follow the care label. Thin fibre flattens over time, and shaking it out after washing helps it recover.
