IKEA Nisseholm Mattress Pad im Test

The IKEA Nisseholm is a 5 cm mattress pad made from high-resilience polyurethane foam, also called cold foam, and it is the deepest pad IKEA sells in the UK. IKEA describes the feel as soft yet “sleep on top”: the foam springs back quickly instead of letting you sink, so it adds cushioning without the slow hug of memory foam (IKEA product page).

Construction

The foam sits inside a double-sided cover of recycled-polyester stretch fabric with a layer of polyester wadding, removable and washable at up to 60°C. Because the cover works either way up, you can turn the pad over as well as rotate it end to end, which spreads wear more evenly. It arrives roll-packed and weighs 6.77 kg in a double.

Why the 5 cm matters

The National Bed Federation’s consumer site advises choosing a topper at least 5 cm deep, because “anything thinner is unlikely to make a noticeable difference in comfort” (Bed Advice UK). The Nisseholm is the only IKEA pad that reaches that depth. The same guidance recommends non-slip backing or corner straps, and the Nisseholm has neither. Several reviewers on IKEA’s product page say it slides unless a fitted sheet or protector holds it down.

Sizes and prices

IKEA offers no sleep trial and states no guarantee for mattress pads. Under its return policy an unopened pad can go back for a full refund within 365 days, and an opened one is refunded to an IKEA refund card.

Who it suits

The Nisseholm suits back sleepers and anyone who moves around at night and wants a softer surface while still feeling on the bed rather than in it.
