The Origin Contour Mattress Topper is a 5cm layer of contour memory foam with cooling gel-infused beads, made for a mattress that supports you well but feels too firm at the shoulders and hips. Origin sells it in five UK sizes, from a 92x190cm Single to a 180x200cm Super King, with a removable, washable Tencel cover.

The gel beads are there to slow the warm-up that plain memory foam is known for. Origin’s product page lists temperature regulation with cooling gel-infused beads. Gel absorbs heat before its own temperature rises, so it delays warmth building under you rather than removing it; a sleep-laboratory study of a high heat capacity mattress (Kräuchi et al., 2018) found its surface up to 6.12°C cooler than a conventional mattress while both warmed. Origin publishes no measurement for this topper itself.

Origin gives no firmness number and describes the feel as optimised for all sleeping positions. We rate it medium, 5 out of 10, from the 5cm contour foam: soft enough to ease the shoulder and hip of a side sleeper, with enough body that a back sleeper does not end up in a hollow.

The weakness is range. There is one 5cm depth, so a mattress that feels hard needs a thicker topper, and no topper will fix a mattress that has started to sag.
