Firmness: MediumTwo firmness levels in one budget mattress: gel memory foam with a medium firm side and a firm side.
The RattanTree Gel Memory Foam Mattress is a rolled, all-foam mattress with two usable sides, one rated medium firm and the other firm (H3 and H4 on the German scale the brand quotes). Prices start at £89.99 for a 15cm single. The brand’s own site shows 681 customer reviews for it, 85% of them five stars.
Inside, 4cm of gel memory foam sits on a block of support foam, 16cm thick in the 20cm version and 11cm in the 15cm version. The cover is a knitted fabric that RattanTree calls negative ion aerobic fabric, and an anti-slip cover on the underside is meant to stop the mattress creeping on a slatted base. The product page describes the foam as hypoallergenic and fire-retardant. No foam densities are published, and density is the figure buyers usually use to judge how well memory foam will last.
| UK size | Size (cm) | Price, 15cm depth |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 90x190 | £89.99 |
| Small double | 120x190 | £109.99 |
| Double | 135x190 | £129.99 |
| King | 150x200 | £149.99 |
The 20, 25 and 30cm versions cost more in every size, up to £199.99 for a 30cm king. For a child or an occasional guest the 15cm depth is enough. An adult sleeping on it every night is better served by 20cm or more, because the thin version leaves only 11cm of support foam under the gel layer.
We rate the firmness 7 out of 10 on the medium firm side. That suits back and stomach sleepers, who need the hips held level, and the firm reverse gives anyone who likes a harder bed a second option without buying another mattress. Lighter side sleepers may find the shoulders get too little give, even on the softer side. Gel foam and a knitted cover take some of the edge off the heat, but a solid foam block still breathes less than a spring unit, so warm sleepers should look at the brand’s 25cm hybrid instead.
Delivery to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland is free. There is no sleep trial. Under its returns and exchanges policy, RattanTree takes a mattress back within 30 days of delivery only in new, resellable condition with its packaging intact, and you pay the return carriage if you have simply changed your mind. The same page gives a one-year warranty, which is short for a mattress. That warranty does not limit your legal rights, and GOV.UK confirms that you can claim for a faulty item for up to six years after purchase, five in Scotland.

“Buy it for a spare room, a teenager's bed or a firm-preferring sleeper who wants two firmness options for £89.99 in a single. Skip it if you sleep hot or want a long trial, because the only safety net is a 30-day return in resellable condition and a one-year warranty.”Go to shop →
