The Woolroom Woolly Sprung Mattress Topper is a 9-10 cm topper that puts about 1,000 pocketed 30 mm micro springs (king size) between layers of British wool, 1,500gsm in total, to give a firm mattress a pillow-top feel. At £789 in a double it costs more than many complete mattresses, and it is one of two sprung toppers Woolroom sells. The other, the 10 cm Ryeland, has about 2,000 mini springs in a king and costs more in every size both are made in.

How the Woolly is built

Woolroom lists six layers on the Woolly product page. The springs sit in the middle, so the wool above them is lifted rather than crushed flat, which is the main difference from a plain wool pad. There is no foam, no polyester and no chemical flame retardant, and Woolroom says the Woolly is designed and manufactured in the UK.

Layer (top to bottom) What it is
1. Outer cover Merino and viscose blend, naturally fire retardant
2. Quilted top 200gsm Wool ID traceable British wool
3. Comfort pad 1,000gsm British wool
4. Spring layer Pocketed 30 mm micro springs, about 1,000 in a king
5. Insulator pad 300gsm British wool under the springs
6. Base Quilted wool and merino-blend outer on Better Cotton Initiative cotton

Mini springs are a recent category. The National Bed Federation’s mattress buying guide describes low-profile mini springs, some under 3 cm tall, as a highly resilient alternative to traditional fillings, which is the job they do here. Woolroom rates the tension soft to medium.

Sizes and prices

Eight sizes are sold, from single to super king, with no emperor. Prices are regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026); Woolroom was running a 25% sale on all of them when we checked.

Delivery, trial and warranty

A specialist carrier delivers the Woolly to the doorstep within two to three weeks, and there is a 30-night trial with free return. Check the warranty in writing before you order. The product page promises a five-year manufacturing warranty, but Woolroom’s general warranty terms list the Woolly at 12 months. Care is spot cleaning only, with a damp cloth and wool detergent.

The Woolly is for someone whose mattress is structurally sound but too firm, and who wants natural materials rather than memory foam. If your mattress already sags, a topper will not fix the dip, and a new mattress is the better use of the money.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Woolly is the Woolroom topper to buy if your mattress feels hard and you want real extra depth, with 9-10 cm of springs and wool rather than a thin pad. At £789 for a double it is expensive, so if your mattress is already sagging put that money towards a new one instead.”
