The Woolroom Deluxe Wool Mattress Topper is a 4-5 cm layer of 1,000gsm British wool in an unbleached organic cotton cover, and at £219.99 for a single it is the cheapest way into Woolroom’s topper range. It is a temperature and comfort layer rather than a support upgrade. The wool softens the surface a little and absorbs moisture, but at this depth it will not change how a tired mattress holds your spine.

What is inside the Deluxe

Woolroom fills the Deluxe with carded wool from its Wool ID programme, which lets you scan the swing tag and see the group of independently audited British farms the fibre came from. The cover is 200 thread count organic cotton, elasticated straps hold it on mattresses up to 35 cm deep, and there are no synthetic interliners or chemical flame retardants. The figures below come from the Woolroom Deluxe product page, checked in September 2026.

What the certifications and claims mean

OEKO-TEX Class 1 is the strictest of the four STANDARD 100 product classes, the class written for baby articles, and the label means the textile passed tests against a list of more than 1,000 harmful substances. Allergy UK lists Woolroom bedding in its Seal of Approval product directory with house dust mites, mould and fungi as the named triggers.

The sleep claims deserve more caution. Woolroom says its toppers give 25% better sleep than polyester, down and feather. The closest peer-reviewed trial we found is smaller and more modest: in a 2016 study of 17 adults published in Nature and Science of Sleep (Shin et al., co-authored by The Woolmark Company), wool sleepwear shortened the time taken to fall asleep at 17°C, but switching the bedding from polyester to wool made no measurable difference to sleep.

Sizes and prices

The Deluxe comes in ten sizes, more than any other Woolroom topper. Prices are Woolroom’s regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026); a 25% sale was running on every size when we checked.

Size Dimensions (cm) Regular price

Single XL 90x200 £229.99
Small double 120x190 £279.99

King 150x200 £329.99
EU king 160x200 £349.99

Who the Deluxe suits

The Deluxe makes most sense on a mattress that is in good condition but sleeps warm, which usually means memory foam. If your main aim is a softer bed, 4-5 cm of wool only goes part of the way, and Woolroom’s sprung toppers, the 9-10 cm Woolly and the 10 cm Ryeland, are the deeper options. The 30-night trial matters here, because it lets you sleep on the topper before you commit to it.

The drawback is care. The Deluxe is dry clean only and has to be stored in its calico bag rather than vacuum packed, so a washable protector on top is worth budgeting for.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Buy the Deluxe if your mattress sleeps warm or feels slightly too firm and you want natural fibres with a 30-night trial behind them. At 4-5 cm it will not rescue a sagging or very hard mattress, and dry-clean-only care rules it out if you want to wash bedding at home.”
