Panda Bamboo Waterproof Mattress Protector reviewed

The Panda Bamboo Waterproof Mattress Protector is a thin, unpadded protector with a 70% bamboo and 30% cotton top, a waterproof TPU inner layer and a fully elasticated 32cm skirt. It costs £30 for a UK single and £37 for a UK double at the time of writing (September 2026), with a 30-night trial and a 2-year guarantee.

Specification

The figures are from the Panda product page. Panda says the NanoTPU film is quieter than the rubbery backing of older waterproof protectors and that the 32cm skirt fits over a mattress with a topper on it. It does not publish a hydrostatic head or other waterproofing test figure, so there is no number to compare it with rivals that do.

Allergies and washing temperature

Panda describes the bamboo top as naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic and says it fends off bacteria and dust mites, but it publishes no allergen test for the protector. That distinction matters for anyone with a dust mite allergy. NHS patient advice from Cambridge University Hospitals says barrier covers should completely enclose the item and recommends buying products that have been tested to show they prevent the escape of house dust mite allergen; a fitted-skirt protector covers the top and sides only. Allergy UK states that washing at 60°C or above kills mites, and Panda’s care label stops at 50°C.

Where it earns its place is spills, sweat and accidents. Panda pitches it at exactly that, from breakfast in bed to pets on the duvet, and a machine-washable waterproof layer is the simplest way to keep liquid out of a mattress that cannot be washed itself.
