The Emma Waterproof Mattress Protector is a fitted, sheet-style protector in 100% polyester with a polyurethane membrane that stops liquids reaching the mattress, sold in eight UK and EU sizes from £61 for a UK single. It is a plain, secure waterproof layer rather than a padded or cooling one.
A mattress soaks up more than spills. Bed Advice UK, the consumer site of the National Bed Federation, says we lose around half a pint of fluid each night and shed over a pound of dead skin cells a year while we sleep. Its bed care guide simply says to always use a mattress protector, and its topper guide suggests owning two so one can be in the wash.
Emma’s product page describes a polyester protector with a polyurethane film that makes it waterproof, cut like a fitted sheet rather than held by four corner straps, so it follows the mattress closely and does not slide. Emma lists each size for a 25 cm deep mattress and says it is compatible with all Emma mattresses and toppers. The membrane can crackle for the first few nights, and Emma suggests an extra wash to soften it.

Families with young children, pet owners and anyone who wants to protect a new mattress under its guarantee. Emma publishes no warranty length for the protector. If you sleep hot, a protector with a cooling fabric may suit you better, because a waterproof membrane under polyester is not designed to move heat.
