The Simba TripleShield Bamboo Mattress Protector is a waterproof protector with a bamboo-rayon jersey top and a TPU backing, for mattresses up to 40cm deep. It is the cheapest protector Simba sells, from a regular £49 for a single, and Simba states it withstands more than 1,500mm in a hydrostatic-head test.

What is it made of?

Part Material
Top 100% rayon from bamboo, jersey knit
Back TPU and 100% polyester
Skirt 100% polyester, anti-slip fit
Water resistance Hydrostatic head above 1,500mm (BS EN ISO 20811, per Simba)
Fits Mattresses up to 40cm deep

The specification is from Simba’s UK product page. Simba does not state the country of manufacture.

How waterproof is it?

Enough for everyday spills and accidents. A hydrostatic-pressure test measures how much water pressure a fabric resists before water passes through it; the method is set out in the textile standard that BSI publishes as BS EN ISO 811. Simba quotes a result above 1,500mm under BS EN ISO 20811, which it says covers most spills and accidents. Simba also lists the protector as breathable, with the bamboo fibre meant to keep the surface cool, although it publishes no airflow figure for it. The TPU layer does the waterproofing, while the jersey top keeps it from feeling or sounding plasticky, and Simba describes it as silent in use.

Who should buy it?

Anyone protecting a new mattress on a budget, families with young children and pet owners. For children the case is practical: the NHS notes that many children under 5 wet the bed, and its advice for home includes waterproof covers on the mattress and duvet. Simba says a protector is required to keep its 10-year mattress guarantee valid, which makes the cheapest waterproof option the logical default. It adds no padding and no anti-dust-mite treatment is listed; for those, the Quilted Performance costs 61% more in a single.

Will it fit?

The 40cm skirt covers every Simba mattress, including the 34cm Hybrid Ultra, and most mattresses from other brands. It matters most on the Natural Hybrid Source and Apex, which Simba sells with non-removable covers, so a spill on an unprotected mattress stays there. Being thin and unpadded, the Bamboo protector changes the feel of the mattress less than the quilted model.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The TripleShield Bamboo is the protector we would put on a new mattress first, because it is the cheapest in Simba's range and, unlike the Quilted Performance, tested for water resistance. Buyers who want a softer surface or a dust-mite treatment should pay the extra for the Quilted Performance.”
