Brightr Aurora Memory Foam Mattress Topper reviewed

The Brightr Aurora is a 5 cm reversible memory foam mattress topper for softening a mattress that feels too hard. One side is a plusher memory foam with Brightr’s wave-profiled WaveComfort surface and the other a firmer memory foam, and the regular price starts at £149.90 for a UK small single.

What is the Brightr Aurora made of?

Brightr’s Aurora product page states that the foams are CertiPUR certified, the textiles OEKO-TEX certified and the topper made in Europe. The layer split comes from the topper comparison chart Brightr publishes on its Titan product page. CertiPUR is the foam label run by the European trade body EUROPUR; its technical paper caps formaldehyde emissions from certified foam at 15 µg/m³ after 72 hours in a test chamber. Under OEKO-TEX Standard 100, every component of a labelled textile is tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances.

Read Brightr’s own marketing with some care. The Aurora page calls the two feels soft and medium in the title and medium-soft and medium-firm in the bullet points. The comparison chart quotes a 10-year warranty and the American CertiPUR-US label, while the written terms say five years and the product page names CertiPUR. We go by the written terms.

How does it feel?

We rate the Aurora medium-soft, 4 on our 1 to 10 scale, with the plush side up. Five centimetres of memory foam is enough to take the edge off a firm sprung mattress for a side sleeper, whose shoulder and hip carry most of the load, but it will not hide a dip because foam follows the shape underneath. The firmer side suits back sleepers who want a little cushioning without losing support. Memory foam holds some body heat, and the SolaceChill cooling fabric covers only one face of the topper.

Trial, warranty and delivery

Brightr offers a 100-night comfort trial with a full refund, but asks you to sleep on the topper for at least 60 nights before returning it. The foam carries a five-year limited warranty and the removable cover one year. Delivery is free and next business day to UK mainland addresses for weekday orders placed before 12pm; Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and Islands and the Channel Islands may cost extra. The cover washes at 30C on a gentle cycle; the foam core is spot-clean only, and the topper arrives vacuum-packed.
