The Relyon Braemar is a traditional two-sided mattress from Relyon’s Heritage collection, built on 1,400 hand-nested pocket springs in a king and upholstered with cotton, cashmere, silk and West Country lambswool. It is the most hand-made Relyon we review and carries the longest guarantee, 15 years.

Hand-nested springs

Relyon’s Braemar spec sheet says the springs are sewn into fabric pockets, hand-nested in a honeycomb pattern and tied with linen cord. The National Bed Federation singles out exactly that construction as the better-quality kind of pocket spring, against cheaper units glued together in rows. Nesting closes the gaps between the springs, so the support is even across the surface. Two rows of hand side stitching hold the border, and the cover fabric is treated with M-Pure, a fire-retardant finish that Relyon describes as non-chemical and biodegradable.

The fillings

Working down from the cover, Relyon lists a hypoallergenic fibre layer, a cotton layer, cashmere and silk, and a blanket-like layer of lambswool. Every one of those breathes and absorbs moisture, which keeps the surface dry through the night. Because the fillings sit on both faces, you turn the Braemar as well as rotate it, weekly for the first three months and monthly after that.

Tension and depth

Relyon makes the Braemar in soft, medium or firm, and in split tensions for couples who want a different feel on each side. MattressNextDay, the retailer we link to, sells the Edge+ version in medium only, so that is the feel this review covers. Relyon gives a 28.5cm border height; MattressNextDay lists its Edge+ version at 27cm.

Size Dimensions (cm) Pocket springs Weight Price at MattressNextDay
Double 135x190 1,225 44kg £1,049
King 150x200 1,400 52kg £1,049
Super king 180x200 1,665 62kg £1,499

The table shows the Braemar’s most useful quirk. MattressNextDay charges the same for a king as for a double, so if your room and frame allow it, the king is the better buy. The NBF makes the same case from the other side, noting that a 135cm double gives each partner less width than a baby’s cot.

Who it suits

Couples and back sleepers who value natural fillings and a long guarantee will get the most from it. It is less suited to anyone who cannot turn a 52kg king every month. For a firmer two-sided Relyon at a lower price, look at the Heyford Ortho 1500, which costs £829 in a double. If you would rather never flip a mattress, the no-turn Luxury Pashmina 2350 keeps the natural fillings and drops the turning.

Buying it

MattressNextDay delivers free to most of the mainland, flat, and all three sizes were in stock in October 2026. There is no sleep trial on this model and returns of an unopened mattress are at your cost, so choose the tension carefully. Relyon’s Heritage guarantee runs for 15 years.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Braemar is the Relyon to buy if you want hand-nested springs, a deep natural upholstery and a 15-year guarantee, and you are happy to turn the mattress every month. At MattressNextDay the king costs the same as the double, so size up if you can.”
