Futon Company Supreme Bifold Futon
7.4/10A 15cm bifold futon with springy fibre over deep foam, made in London for…
Härte: MittelfestA 15cm open-coil bunk mattress with an EcoMemory fibre top, foam-free and shallow enough for most top bunks.
The Silentnight Healthy Growth Eco Memory Bunk Mattress is a 15cm single made for the top bunk: Bonnell open-coil springs for support, a layer of Silentnight’s EcoMemory Fibres for a softer top, and no foam anywhere in it. It sells only as a UK single (90x190cm), at £209 from Silentnight’s own shop.
A guard rail only works if the mattress leaves enough of it standing. BS EN 747-1, the British and European standard for bunk and high beds, requires the top of the mattress to sit at least 16cm below the upper edge of the safety barrier, and the frame to carry a permanent mark showing the maximum mattress thickness. A 15cm mattress therefore needs a rail at least 31cm above the slats. Silentnight describes the Eco Memory Bunk as suitable for most bunk, cabin and character beds, but the mark on your own frame is the figure that decides.

An open-coil unit is the traditional spring system, with every coil linked to its neighbours rather than sewn into its own pocket. It gives a child a level, even surface, and it keeps the price down. The trade-off is that movement travels further across the mattress than on a pocket-sprung model, which hardly matters on a single bunk where one child sleeps alone. The EcoMemory fibre layer adds the slight sink that Silentnight’s plainer Eco Bunk lacks, which is why this version carries a medium/firm rating rather than firm. Silentnight states the mattress is hypoallergenic and made without foam and without flame-retardant chemical treatment.
We see it as the default top-bunk mattress for children from six, the age below which NHS guidance advises against the top bunk, through to the early teens. A heavy teenager who wants deeper cushioning is better served on the bottom bunk or a full-size bed, where depth is not limited. Silentnight’s lifetime guarantee scheme covers mattresses for 15 years when the purchase is registered within three months, against 5 years as standard, and the 60-night trial lets you exchange it if your child finds it too firm.
The weak point is the size range. There is no European single (90x200) or small single (75x190) version, so owners of IKEA-sized or compact bunks need a different mattress.

„This is the mattress we would buy for a top bunk first: 15cm deep, medium-firm and made for bunk beds by the UK's biggest mattress brand. It is the wrong choice only if your frame takes a 90x200 or small single mattress, because Silentnight makes it in 90x190 alone.“Zum Shop →
