Latex Sense Ultimate Talalay Latex Topper reviewed

The Latex Sense Ultimate Talalay Latex Topper is a 6cm soft topper of 100% natural Talalay latex at 60kg/m³, the softest and most expensive of Latex Sense's four toppers. It is meant for side sleepers and for anyone whose mattress feels hard at the shoulder and hip, and at the time of writing (September 2026) it costs £640 in a UK double, nearly twice the price of the Dunlop-based Luxury topper in the same size.

Talalay or Dunlop?

Both are natural latex from rubber-tree sap, and the difference is two extra production steps. According to Latex Sense's own guide to Dunlop and Talalay latex, a Talalay mould is put under vacuum so the foam expands evenly, then frozen to minus 30°C before curing, which opens the cells and gives a very uniform density. The company says the process takes four times longer and uses five times more energy than Dunlop, which goes some way to explaining the price. The Ultimate pairs that process with the lowest density in the range, 60kg/m³ against 65 and 85kg/m³ for the Dunlop models, and it drops the seven-zone profile for a single uniform zone. The feel is soft with a quick spring back, rather than the slow sink of memory foam.

Who it suits

Side sleepers get the most from it, because a soft 6cm layer lets the shoulder and hip settle in while the mattress below does the supporting. Lighter back sleepers on a firm mattress will like it too. Stomach sleepers and heavier people are better served by the Firmsense, since a soft layer lets the hips drop. The topper relies on the mattress beneath it: Latex Sense itself says it is not meant to fix sagging, and the National Bed Federation's bed advice treats a mattress older than seven to 10 years as a candidate for replacement.

Certification

The Ultimate carries the widest list of marks in the Latex Sense range. The product page names OEKO-TEX Standard 100, a label that tests every component against more than 1,000 harmful substances, plus eco-INSTITUT for the Talalay latex, FSC sourcing for the rubber plantations and Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold level for the latex. The maker, Yanis Foams and Mattresses, is a member of the National Bed Federation.

Prices by size

As with the other Latex Sense toppers, the cover cannot be washed, a protector is required, and the maker asks for a rotation every six weeks.

At £640 in a double, the 30-night trial is worth knowing in detail. It runs from the day of delivery and covers one free exchange, for instance to the firmer Luxury Dunlop topper if the Ultimate lets your hips sink, with a new 30 nights on the replacement; you can also return it for a refund. Collection is free on the UK mainland and in Scotland, custom sizes are excluded, and a change of size costs £50. The 10-year guarantee matches the rest of the range.
