Dream Team Ultimate Washable Mattress Topper im Test

The Dream Team Ultimate Washable Mattress Topper is a two-layer polyester fibre topper from Dreams’ own Dream Team range, built so that the plush top layer unzips from its supportive base and goes in the washing machine at 40°C. It is the cheapest topper Dreams sells in a double and the only one it offers in a small double.

Feel and who it suits

Fibre gives a soft, springy surface rather than the body-moulding of memory foam. The reviewer at Expert Reviews found that it relieved pressure for side sleeping, but noted that it slopes a little at the edges and may be too soft for heavier sleepers. Dreams gives no depth or firmness grade; we place it at about 4 out of 10.

The washable top layer is the real reason to buy it. On the Hyde & Sleep and TheraPur foam toppers only the cover comes off, while here the whole sleeping layer goes in the machine. NHS advice on allergic rhinitis is to wash bedding at 60°C and above against house dust mites, though, and 40°C falls short of that, so allergy sufferers still need a protector that washes hotter.

Dreams pitches it at guest rooms and sofa beds as well as the main bed, and the zip-off design suits that use, since the top can be washed between visitors while the base stays put. On a bed used every night, expect fibre to compress where you lie over time, which a foam topper resists better.
