IKEA Nopakte Mattress Pad im Test

The IKEA Nopakte is a 2.5 cm standard foam mattress pad and the cheapest topper IKEA sells in the UK. The filling is polyurethane foam at 33 kg per cubic metre under a woven recycled-polyester cover with wadding, and the cover zips off for a machine wash at up to 60°C (IKEA product page).

What 2.5 cm can and cannot do

At 2.5 cm the Nopakte takes the edge off a hard surface and protects the mattress beneath it, but it will not change how that mattress supports you. The National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice UK site sets 5 cm as the depth below which a topper is unlikely to make a noticeable difference (Bed Advice UK), and the Nopakte is half that. Treat it as a washable comfort layer, not a repair.

A one-sided cover

Unlike IKEA’s other three pads, the Nopakte has a cover with a distinct top and bottom, so you can rotate it end to end but not flip it. It is also the lightest pad in the range at 3.38 kg packed in a double, easy to carry home on the bus or move between beds.

Sizes and prices

There is no king or super king, so a larger bed needs the Näsfjället or one of the deeper pads. IKEA gives no sleep trial or guarantee on the Nopakte, though its return policy allows 365 days, with opened items refunded to a refund card.

Who it suits

The Nopakte suits a guest bed, a student room or anyone who mostly wants a washable layer between themselves and an older mattress. If your mattress is uncomfortable rather than merely unwelcoming, spend the extra on the 5 cm IKEA Nisseholm.
