Härte: MittelweichA British-made wool fleece topper with a temperature-regulating surface, elasticated fitting and a two-year guarantee.
The John Lewis Natural Collection British Wool Fleece Mattress Topper is a thin wool surface rather than a cushioning layer. It is a 100% wool top cover on a polyester knit backing, about 1cm deep, made in Lancashire by what John Lewis describes as a family-run business established over 100 years ago.
According to the John Lewis product page, the top cover is 100% wool, the back knit 100% polyester, the back coat 100% acrylic and the binding 100% cotton. There is no separate filling, so what you lie on is the wool pile itself. An elasticated band holds it on mattresses up to 38cm deep, one of the deepest fits in the John Lewis topper range, and the super king weighs only 2,160g, so it is easy to lift and air.
John Lewis says wool is temperature regulating and breathable, keeping heat in on cold nights and letting it out on warm ones, and that it naturally inhibits the growth of bacteria. The evidence for wool in bed is thinner than that. In a 2016 sleep laboratory study of 17 young adults over nine nights, Shin et al. found that wool sleepwear helped people fall asleep faster than cotton, but found no effect on sleep from wool rather than polyester bedding. The study was co-authored by Australian Wool Innovation, the wool industry body. Treat the comfort claims as plausible rather than proven.
It is spot clean only and must not be tumble dried or ironed, so it is best used under a washable mattress protector. It carries a two-year guarantee.
| Size | Dimensions (cm) | Regular price |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 90 x 190 | £110 |
| Double | 135 x 190 | £135 |
| King | 150 x 200 | £150 |
| Super king | 180 x 200 | £170 |
Like every John Lewis topper, it can only be returned unopened, unused and with its seals intact unless it is faulty, and there is no sleep trial. Standard delivery was free on orders over £50 (£4.50 below that) and Click and Collect free over £40 when we checked in October 2026.
Choose it if your mattress already feels right and you want a natural, dry-feeling surface on top of it, or if you like the idea of wool next to you without adding height to the bed. If you want the bed to feel noticeably softer, the thicker John Lewis British Wool topper does more and costs less in every size. Compare both in our John Lewis mattress topper ranking.
„The wool fleece topper is for sleepers who run hot and cold through the year and want a natural surface next to them. It is thin, so it changes the feel of the bed rather than its support.“Zum Shop →
