“A cheap duvet in the wrong tog is the one you replace first, so read the tog and the fill before you read the discount.”
Choose the tog before the deal
A tog measures how well a duvet holds warmth. The textile laboratory IDFL notes that British Standard tog ratings for single-layer duvets run from 4.5 for a summer weight to 15.0 for very cold winters, and that a tog on its own says nothing about quality. The Sleep Charity recommends a bedroom of around 16 to 18°C. In a centrally heated room at that temperature a 10.5 tog covers most of the year, a 4.5 tog is for summer and a 13.5 tog suits cold rooms or people who always feel the cold. A two-layer duvet covers all three weights with one purchase.
Fill, care and allergies
Emma and Simba fill their duvets with recycled polyester and Silentnight its Anti-Allergy duvet with hollowfibre, all suitable if you avoid feather and down. Washing temperatures differ. Emma’s duvet takes up to 60°C, the Simba Hybrid and the Silentnight Anti-Allergy duvet 40°C. A king or super king duvet needs a large drum, so check your machine before you choose the bigger size. If dust mites are the problem, Allergy UK lists the products it endorses on its approved products page.
Duvet covers and bedding sets
The fabric decides how a set feels more than the thread count does. Simba’s three sets come in the same sizes and sit within £30 of each other in a double, so choose by fabric. On 26 October Simba was also clearing two discontinued colourways, Light Cappuccino and Dusty Rose, at less than half the regular price, £45 for a percale double set and £55 for Tencel or Egyptian cotton.
Judging a bedding discount
Bedding discounts are easy to overstate. A clearance colour at half the price the regular colours still sell for is a real saving if you like the colour; a “was” price you never saw charged is not. The double prices in the table were all recorded on 26 October 2026, so compare them with the Black Friday price before you decide a deal is real.
Sizes, timing and returns
UK duvet sizes are not mattress sizes. A double duvet is 200x200 cm for a 135 cm wide bed, a king 220x225 cm and a super king 220x260 cm, although Emma’s super king is 220x240 cm. If you share a double and fight over the covers, buy a king duvet: it hangs about 12 cm further over each side of the bed. Black Friday 2026 is on Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday on 30 November.
Bedding bought online normally comes with a 14-day right to cancel, but regulation 28 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations lets that right lapse for “sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons” once you unseal them. Keep the packaging intact until you are sure. Simba takes bedding back within 30 days and Emma gives its duvets a 14-night trial. If the bed underneath needs replacing too, see our Black Friday bed deals and the Black Friday mattress guide.
