The Emma All Seasons Customisable Duvet is two duvets in one: a 3.5 tog layer for summer and a 7.0 tog layer for spring and autumn, which clip together into a 10.5 tog duvet for winter. Both layers have a 100% cotton cover and a recycled polyester filling, and a double costs £150.

A tog measures thermal resistance, and the textile lab IDFL puts British Standard duvet ratings between 4.5 for a summer weight and 15.0 for very cold winters. Emma’s thin layer sits at the bottom of that range, the thicker one in the middle, and the pair joined reach 10.5, the weight most UK brands sell as all-season. Emma says the clips stop the layers sliding apart during the night.
In practice you store one layer for half the year. The 3.5 tog layer on its own is light enough for a warm bedroom in July; the 7.0 tog layer suits a heated bedroom from October; the pair goes on when the heating goes off at night. The cotton cover breathes better than the microfibre shells common at this price, which matters most in summer.

Choose it if you own one duvet and swap bedding with the seasons anyway, or if your bedroom swings between hot and cold. The super king is 240 cm wide, 20 cm narrower than the 260 cm super kings sold by Simba and Silentnight, so it hangs less far over the sides of a 180 cm bed. Both layers span the whole bed, so a couple who disagree about warmth still share one tog. Emma gives duvets a 14-night trial counted from delivery but states no guarantee period for them, unlike its mattresses.

“A sensible buy if you want one duvet purchase to cover the whole year: the 3.5 tog layer handles July and the clipped pair handles January. If you only ever sleep under a 10.5 tog, a single-weight duvet costs less for the same warmth.”Go to shop →
