The Silentnight Supersoft Waterproof Mattress Protector is a four-layer protector with a quilted microfibre top, hollowfibre padding and a waterproof polypropylene base, held on by a 30cm deep fitted skirt and priced from £14 for a single at Simply Beds. It is a low-cost protector from a major UK brand, but stock and reviews both need a caveat.
The Silentnight product page describes four individual layers, with the waterproof layer at the bottom so you lie on the quilted microfibre rather than on plastic.

At the time of writing (September 2026) the listing at Marks and Spencer, sold by Silentnight, showed 11 reviews averaging 2.2 out of 5, with 27% of reviewers recommending it. The complaints were that it made them hot, that it was noisy when turning over, and in at least one case that liquid got through. We cannot verify individual reports, but that is a weaker record than most protectors we cover, and it shapes our score.
A skirted protector is not the same as an allergy barrier. Allergy UK advises allergen-proof covers that are breathable and completely enclose the mattress, and a fitted-sheet style protector leaves the underside open. Choose this one for spills and accidents, not for dust mite allergy.

Silentnight’s own shop and M&S both listed it as out of stock when we checked in September 2026, when M&S priced it at £19 to £26 across four sizes including small double. Simply Beds Sussex had it in stock in single, double and king with free UK mainland delivery. Silentnight’s packaging states a 2-year guarantee.
Check your mattress depth before buying. The 30cm skirt covers most standard mattresses, but deep pillowtop and box-top models, including several Silentnight mattresses at 31cm or more, need a protector with a deeper skirt. The protector is machine washable, and if you use it on a child’s bed, keep a second one so that one is always on the bed while the other is washed and dried.
