The Fogarty Soft Touch Stain Resist is Dunelm's quilted microfibre protector with a stain-resistant finish, for buyers who do not need waterproofing.
No firmness rating from the manufacturer.
The Fogarty Soft Touch Stain Resist Mattress Protector is Dunelm’s quilted microfibre protector: an embossed 100% polyester top with a stain-resistant finish, a light polyester fibre filling and an elasticated skirt, with no waterproof layer. It is sold with a 30cm or a 35cm skirt, in UK sizes from single to emperor, and it is the cheapest protector in our comparison of the best mattress protectors.
| Size | Dimensions | 30cm skirt | 35cm skirt |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 90 x 190cm | £14 | £2 more, sold out |
| Double | 135 x 190cm | £18 | £2 more |
| King | 150 x 200cm | £20 | £2 more |
| Super king | 180 x 200cm | £22 | £2 more |
| Emperor | 200 x 200cm | Not sold | £26 |
These are Dunelm’s regular prices, checked on dunelm.com on 28 September 2026. A small double is listed, but it was out of stock in both depths that day, as was the 35cm single. Standard delivery costs £3.95 and is free over £60, and click and collect is free.
Dunelm describes a stain-resistant treatment made for “spills, splashes and all”, but the protector has no membrane, so a larger spill or a child’s accident will soak through to the mattress. Ideal Home named it the best budget mattress protector of the 15 bestselling models it tried and confirms that there is no waterproofing. What the quilting does, according to the same review, is keep sweat and light stains lifted away from the surface of the mattress. If liquid protection matters, the waterproof protectors in our comparison use a thin polyurethane film under the top fabric, which this one does not have.
The embossed microfibre feels soft and adds a thin quilted layer to the bed. The trade-off is warmth. Ideal Home’s tester found that the synthetic cover and quilting made her overheat, and recommended a pure cotton or wool-filled protector for hot sleepers instead. She also heard a very slight rustle when the sheet moved over the polyester, which she described as barely noticeable. That makes it a sensible choice for a guest bed or a spare room, where the protector mainly has to keep the mattress clean between visits and nobody sleeps on it every night.
Dunelm’s care instructions allow machine washing and a low tumble dry but give no maximum temperature, and Ideal Home’s review lists it as washable at 40°C. That is below the 60°C at which Allergy UK says house dust mites are killed, so check the label before relying on it for a dust-mite allergy routine. Ideal Home rated it the easiest protector to care for in its round-up, and after three years of use its polyester backing had only started to fur and bobble a little. On dunelm.com it averaged 4 out of 5 from 13 customer reviews at the time of writing.

“The Fogarty Soft Touch is the protector to buy when the budget is tight and spills are not the worry, because it keeps sweat and everyday marks off the mattress and adds a soft quilted layer. Hot sleepers, and anyone protecting a child's bed, should spend more on a breathable or a waterproof model.”Go to shop →
