The SnuzSurface Max Junior is a 16cm pocket-sprung single, 90 x 190cm, from the British nursery brand Snüz, made for children aged 4 to 13 and also sold in a 90 x 200cm size. What sets it apart is a waterproof membrane built into the top surface, at £270.

Why the waterproof layer matters

Night-time accidents are part of the early school years. The NHS bedwetting page says many children under 5 wet the bed and that most grow out of it. A wet night on an ordinary mattress means a soaked core; here the membrane keeps liquid at the surface, and the cover comes off for the washing machine. Snüz still recommends a mattress protector on top, which makes changing the bed at 2am quicker.

Only the white side is waterproof, so the mattress has a right way up. The rest of the build is conventional: pocket springs wrapped in firm foam, a feel that suits back and side sleepers of primary-school age and a 16cm depth that fits most bunk and cabin beds. Check the maximum mattress thickness marked on the bed before ordering.

Delivery, guarantee and lifespan

The mattress arrives vacuum-rolled by free two-person delivery, and Snüz asks you to let it recover its shape for 7 days before use. It carries a 5-year guarantee, and UK returns are free within 100 days, though no sleep trial is stated. Snüz follows The Sleep Charity and the National Bed Federation in advising replacement once a mattress is about seven years old.
