Simba Cool Linen Fitted Sheet reviewed

The Simba Cool Linen Fitted Sheet is a 60% linen, 40% lyocell sheet with 40cm-deep corners, sold in double, king and super king from £99. It is the most breathable sheet Simba makes, suited to warm bedrooms and hot sleepers.

The fabric

Pure linen breathes well but can feel rough at first. Simba blends 60% linen with 40% Tencel lyocell, a fibre made from wood pulp, to soften the handle and add moisture-wicking, while keeping linen’s slubby texture and relaxed, rumpled look. It is meant to be used unironed, and Simba’s care label says not to iron it at all. The blend is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, the label for textiles tested for harmful substances, and it is woven and sewn by the Costa family in Guimarães, Portugal, with natural dyes.

The pockets take a mattress up to 40cm deep. Linen’s slightly textured surface keeps air moving between you and the sheet, and the lyocell content softens it. Simba advises washing it inside out and not bleaching or dry cleaning it. There is no single size.

Washing and care

Simba says to wash with similar colours, tumble dry on low with wool dryer balls, and not to bleach, iron or dry clean it. Linen softens with every wash, so expect it to feel noticeably better after a few weeks than it does on the first night. Fold the elasticated corners inside each other when you store it, and the sheet keeps a neater shape in the cupboard.

Who it suits

Buy this sheet if you sleep hot and prefer natural fibres, or to complete a Cool Linen set. The NHS sleep advice recommends a cool bedroom, and an airy sheet helps on warm nights. It costs almost twice as much as the percale sheet, and linen feels slightly coarse at first. Simba accepts returns of unused bedding within 30 days, as its returns page explains.
