The Momcozy Huggable is a full-length U-shaped pregnancy pillow filled with polyester fibre. It runs down both sides of your body, so you are supported front and back at the same time and can turn from one side to the other without moving the pillow. It costs from £59.99 on Momcozy’s UK shop.

Why side sleeping matters in late pregnancy

The NHS advises going to sleep on your side, left or right, from 28 weeks, because falling asleep on your back after that point can increase the risk of stillbirth (guidance on reducing the risk of stillbirth). The same guidance says not to worry if you wake up on your back. A pillow cannot keep you on your side all night, but a U-shaped one makes the side position comfortable enough to stay in, with something to hug in front, a long arm behind you and a section to grip between your knees.

Build and covers

The fibre filling sits in its own zipped lining, and the outer cover has a second zip, so you can take some fibre out if the pillow lifts your head too high, or keep it full for a firmer hold later in pregnancy. Three covers are sold. The velvet cover is the entry price at £59.99; the two cooling covers cost up to £79.99.

Cover Feel
Velvet, grey Short-pile, soft and warm
Cooling fabric, grey Cool to the touch, for warm sleepers
Cooling fabric, blue Same cooling fabric, different colour

John Lewis measures the pillow at 148 x 78 x 20cm. It arrives vacuum-packed, and the brand advises allowing 48 to 72 hours for it to reach its full loft.

How it feels

We rate it medium soft, 4 out of 10. Fibre filling gives under the weight of your head and bump, so the support comes from the shape wrapping around you rather than from a dense core.

Who it suits

It suits you from the second trimester onwards if you want one piece of support rather than a stack of ordinary pillows, and it works after the birth as a back rest for sitting up in bed. Decide before you open it: the 30-day return window covers unused pillows in their packaging only, with postage at your cost.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“We recommend the Huggable if you want a single full-length pillow for the second half of pregnancy and have a bed wide enough for it. Pick the cooling cover if you sleep warm. In a shared 135cm double, the J-shaped model fits better.”
