The Emma Comfort Cooling Pillow is a 70 x 50 cm microfibre pillow with an Outlast temperature-regulating layer under the cover and removable inner layers for setting its height. It costs £85 and is the softest pillow Emma sells in the UK. It was called the Emma Premium Cloud Pillow until January 2026, and Emma’s earlier name for the same design was the Premium Customisable Microfibre Pillow.

Inside the pillow

There is no foam here at all. The build, as listed on Emma’s UK product page, is four parts.

Part Material Purpose
Cover Padded, 100% polyester Smooth, breathable sleeping surface
Cooling layer Outlast fabric Absorbs, stores and releases heat
Main filling Aerosoft microfibre (polyester hollowfibre) The thick layer that supports neck and shoulders
Inner layers Thinner microfibre layers Come out to make the pillow lower and softer

Emma suggests that front sleepers take the middle layer out. Back and side sleepers will usually keep it full, since they need more height. Emma says the Outlast layer starts working before moisture builds up, so the aim is less sweating rather than a pillow that feels cold.

Washing, and what it means for allergies

Unlike Emma’s two Adapt pillows, the whole Comfort Cooling Pillow goes in the washing machine, at up to 40°C, and Emma recommends a wash every six months with a low tumble dry. That is a real advantage for hygiene, with one catch for allergy sufferers. Allergy UK says washing at 60°C or above kills house dust mites, while cooler washes only remove allergen for a while. If dust mites trouble you, Allergy UK recommends allergen-proof barrier covers on pillows, and this pillow needs one.

How it feels

We rate it medium soft, 3 out of 10. The fibre gives under your head and can be pushed into shape, closer to a hotel pillow than to foam, and at 1.2 kg it has plenty of filling. The Telegraph, quoted by Emma, called it one of the fluffiest down-alternative pillows you will find, and Emma lists it as Telegraph Recommended for 2025. With 648 reviews averaging 4.5 out of 5 on Emma’s UK shop on 8 October 2026, it is the most reviewed of the four, though shoppers are split on whether the removable layers help.

Who it suits

It suits front sleepers, hot sleepers who dislike foam and anyone who wants a down-free pillow that can be washed whole. If you need firm support that stays put for a stiff neck, the foam Adapt Pillow holds its shape better. Emma gives a 30-night trial with free returns and a 2-year guarantee. At the time of writing (October 2026) Emma also sold a refurbished Comfort Cooling Pillow for £51 and a two-pillow bundle that came with a free duvet.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“We recommend the Comfort Cooling if you like a soft pillow you can squash into shape, sleep warm or lie on your front, and want to wash the whole thing. It has the strongest following of Emma's four pillows, with 4.5 out of 5 from 648 UK shop reviews. If a stiff neck needs firm, unmoving support, a foam pillow will serve you better.”
