The Futon Company Supreme Bifold Futon is a 15cm futon mattress for three-seat bifold sofa beds, the frames that fold along the mattress’s length rather than in three. According to the product page it is designed to withstand heavy everyday use, with a generous layer of springy fibre over a deep profile of foam.

Layers Polydenim soft layer, two layers of Fibresprung springy fibre, deep-profile foam, supporting foam block
Depth 15 cm
Size 138 x 190 cm
Regular price £339
Fixing Sewn-in ties to hold it on the frame
Weight 21.5 kg packed

Who it suits

At 15cm the Supreme is four centimetres deeper than Futon Company’s trifold futons, and the foam block gives it a more even, mattress-like support that we rate medium-firm, around 6 out of 10. That depth matters on a bifold frame, where the seat is wide and deep and a thin futon feels hard when you sit. It suits households where the sofa bed is someone’s regular bed, including heavier sleepers who would flatten an all-fibre futon.

The foam block is also its main drawback: foam holds more warmth than cotton and fibre, so hot sleepers may prefer an all-fibre futon. It is sold in one size only and fits bifold frames, not two-seat trifolds.

Buying notes

Like every Futon Company futon it is hand-made to order in London, the price excludes the frame, and the case is not removable, so plan for a cover. All new upholstered furniture sold in the UK must pass the cigarette and match tests of the fire safety regulations.

Unser Urteil

Fazit
„Choose the Supreme Bifold if you have a three-seat bifold futon and someone sleeps on it most nights: 15cm of fibre and foam is the most support Futon Company puts on that frame type below its Fluffy model. It will not fit a two-seat trifold frame.“
